Markdown output has frontmatter for categorising data. HTML for browser consumption is optional.

The goal was to have a simple TUI for quick fetching, but the CLI can be scripted and extendable. All of this with focus on ethical scraping.

Commands are created following the standard from clig.dev.

It is generated with NLP, context-engineering, spec-driven development and LLMs.

The project started from my personal needs of simple archiving with structure and moved to product design/MVP exercise.

I am longtime HN user, and the most value I got in years of reading is always deep in the comments section.

For HN Capcat uses the official API, with rate-limits, identifies honesty with clear user agent and skips paywalled content. All usernames are anonymized with a link to the user profile.

The content is delivered in Markdown format (Obsidian ready with frontmatter) and optional HTML with dark/light themes. Every source has its own YAML config file for separate control and PDF size limiter. In the folder users have an option to change the HTML theme with a minimal CSS design-system.

Please consider that my focus as a product designer is in UX. I have enough of a general culture and software development principles but the code is not validated, and my decisions in building may have a limitation.

And finally, will find a time to build some ideas with Dart/Flutter. Something inside is telling me that in a generated future, people who can code will be able to create free from no code tools and SaaS silos. And this is enough motivation for me:)

I see a strange future in which product designers (who will spend less time on decorating and fiddling with DS components) with the help of ChatGPT will fulfill the role of junior devs in the production pipeline.

Actually, I am utterly baffled that this is not the target of current neural net implementation. I expected some form of automation to emerge in this field first.

Instead, someone decided, that investing in generative "A.I." art and removing the human element from the illustration process is more important.:)

In the world of lean development and design sprints, the quality of UI is not the important part.

Maybe in the near future, only the best designer will survive the shift.

But remember, every rule is just a starting point. If you have a solid understanding of contrast, color, composition, usability, accessibility, and more, you have the freedom to experiment and try new things.

In my professional opinion, standardization and commoditization in design have their pros when it comes to production and usability. However, this approach is leading us towards a bland and uninteresting user experience.

I'm hoping that the emergence of XR will bring back some of the old-school "skeuomorphic" spirit of exploration, expression, and texture in design. If we keep relying solely on "best practices," we risk being replaced by automation.

And please, don't design UI without having a design background. Use some UI library or Tailwind/Bootstrap instead.:)

Dark-colored text over a light background will result in a higher contrast ratio than the opposite combination.

Design decisions must be objective and based on data.

As an option, the user must have the choice to apply different modes and themes based on A11 for low vision.

For example, the principle of higher contrast (dark-colored text on light background) will be literally painful for people with photophobia.

I usually generate my passwords with pwgen (you can install on Mac with brew and use this command pwgen -s 20 -1 -v -y -c -0) then store in plain text within an encrypted folder on my NAS.

In some cases, I use 2FA. In some, a lengthy "mumbo-jumbo" passwords that are easy to remember. :)

P.S. This approach has saved my skin many times. I can sync to my Obsidian folder, which I sync with Synology NAS.

Searching trough open tabs is way more inefficient than searching trough topics/folders and tags in Obsidian. Working against complexity is a habit, I guess. It comes with realization that time is precious:)
