Dumb fucks is what the founder of the company has thought about it's users since day 1. They've been caught lying to cover up terrible things they've done so many times it's just assumed at this point. Anyone relying on their services is being taken advantage of first by Meta, and then by their own failed economy that won't provide an alternative. I've never once considered what Europe thinks.

I was a developer for a long time before git and used many different VC systems. Didn't need to read the book on any of them and had no problems. For most cases, VC is simple. Git is just designed for this complicated case that applies to a tiny sliver of developers. I've never once pushed to more than one remote in like 10-15 years of using it.

Spot on. I think it won because of who created it. I love linux and have been a daily user for like 25 years, but that doesn't mean I'm going to have a positive bias towards new tools or projects Linus makes like git. I think had some no name developed this it would have been laughed at by the majority of devs because, as you say, it's target use case is very specific and rare making it the wrong tool for most of us. Might have the worst interface I've ever seen. Before using it, I spent close to zero time thinking about version control and didn't need to understand anything about it's internals and had zero problems in the software dev lifecycle. Now, people are proud to waste time learning implementation details of their version control tool?

The US has planned for that scenario by heavily investing in defense to minimize risk to our security even if our allies abandon us. The rest of the NATO alliance does not appear to have done this and appears quite vulnerable. I know where I'd rather be.

Yes, I've worked on small teams of highly experienced people where code reviews may only happen a couple times a year for the purpose of knowledge transfer. This is how I've seen it work on what I would consider the most critical and best performing code I've been exposed to. High volume, high stakes stuff in finance and health care.

The kind of work you're describing doesn't benefit the company, it benefits the individual. It's not what they were hired to do. The poor quality code they produce can be a net negative when it causes bugs, maintenance issues, etc. I think it's always the right choice to boot such a person from any company once they've been identified.
