Seriously. How many frameworks and jobs that were just the thing I already did before. Over and over. They hire me because of what they knew I did but want me to sign a thing that says I'll never do it for anyone else but also they never plan on enforcing shit. The better I get at anything no one wants me in the good rooms. Trust me. Chasing all this shit is stupid. VC shit is stupid. Hunt bliss and seek truth through work. Frameworks and tools are great if they serve something that serves you.
Paint on a borrowed canvas and it's hard to complain when they take your life from you. Find the real and fuck all this shit. I turn 40 in a month. I've been following this religion since I was 15. It served me better than most of my peers really but I was never accepted into the pantheon of "in group" either. I suck at programming but I'm almost definitely better than you.
Yeah man. I would say don't do what I did, but that's probably not you. You'll probably have 5 jobs. The advice here that is looking backwards is fucking useless stupid bullshit. This is a tire fire covered in an accidental sewer dump from a Dave Mathews Band tour bus.
Work isn't a search for capital it is sometimes solo but usually a collaborative search for a truth that sums one and one to make three.

Yeah man. I've got some resources that I can use to sound the caves and map it. I was worried about Archive.org because it seems like they are under a lot of pressure and NEED to be defended but it's not a thing that has evolved. We as humans, not relying on someone else need to do several orders of magnitude better than Archive.org did with GeoCities because GeoCities is interesting but Reddit is a literal Library of Alexandria. Anyone who is not either contributing to existing efforts to archive or putting their own scrapers together must really be living a fuckin dream. Heh.
Whatever. Yeah, I'm going to support those archiving efforts and lately I make a lot of effort to be as unprofessional as I can be on Hacker News. Like say words like fuck and balls and dick hole and shit. Seriously. The cooling effect and hive mind isn't about liberals or red pill or whatever. The real shit is that they tricked us into a JS library treadmill.
A world without infinite capital can't keep the treadmill running. YC is part of it. All of y'all scope out my fully animated streaming point cloud composite captures of my fucking nuts. This forum and the rest. Quarterly SV chasing the dragon. Yeah man. FUCK. I wasted so much time with this garbage.
Anyone who reads this. I'm nuts ignore me. All this is dumb. Just keep looking for a new job with someone who will pay you well and definitely respects you and your attention... and when you look back at the best effort in your life and you see NOTHING of what you ever created standing up because all they did was steal from you.... fucking fuck this.

Good. Let them git the digital equivalent of Creutzfeldt-Jakob. It's happening and has been happening. Let them go nuts. AOL.com exists, how many of you had to check to see if that is actually true. I had to check. I mean, there was a merger. They gotta do what they gotta do. It grinds out pennies on nonsense no one checks on. We taught a rock to interconnect our minds ephemerally, yes the ad cents are making dollars even if it doesn't make sense but aren't the dollars or euros or NFSs or whatever just a pac-man score at this point. Like one you can exchange for food or a Porsche or whatever..... but what is the THING. AI doomerism is here to put horse blinders on us to keep us away from the fact that cross browser compute shaders are a thing now.
Protocols not platforms y'all. The game changed.
Wow. This is an amazing video.
A long time ago I was a part time overnight radio engineer for a faith based radio operation in the Portland, Or area. Literally the only reason they needed a person like me to be there was because sundown happens at a slightly different time every night and someone has to manually lower the power of the AM antenna and log that they did it and when they did it at sundown. If an AM antenna is broadcasting at full power on the dark side of the earth it reflects all the way around and causes very interesting chaos. I frequently muse about AM and the solar wavefront and how it could be used as a lens. No one cares. lol.
They had one kind of cool old guy that paid to run a late night AM/FM radio show, real theater of the mind shit. It was cool to run his show. Brother Jacob. I'm not religious or anything. But 100% of why they paid me $15/hr 3 days a week to show up and overnight be the ONLY person in the building managing six radio stations was about AM and it's insane power.
I really mean it when I say this is one of the best videos I've ever seen. There is something so fundamental on display here and I love it.

Yeah. Keep pushing it. It's cool that you can write an article trying to astroturf the illusion of control once enjoyed. The world changed, if your organization can't evolve and figure out that there's no going back only forward and the model that works is not just sitting around waiting for you to pluck from your recent addled memory... And when I say you i mean me or anyone else who tells you they know what's going on. What's happening is good. The old model was way dead before we noticed under the hyper tight light of a global pandemic.
That for sure doesn't mean people don't want to collaboratively work in person with humans they like towards a goal that they can all agree on. That has been a thing and always will be. Free money created a lot of vampires who malinvested and now they are whining about how they should be in charge.
Lately I think a lot about what it means that every day of my life since post puberty I've been making computers do illusions. Tricks are something blah blah blah. What is the difference between digital goods and making someone a hammer or chair. The infinite reproducibility. The MBA class was so well heeled by all this free money they assumed that the tickets they collected to go redeem at the prize bank were reality and they are and they can redeem them.
Most of the folks that make the big technical pushes are in a minority, but it's not because the rest of the wash can't. The rest of the wash is given busy work to not compete. It's wild seeing people on LinkedIn getting screwed in the layoffs complimenting the people that wrecked em like that's the only meal.
Foster local, atomized, productive communities. Screw the silos. It's now or never and now was really a while ago.

Can we start funding Archive.org to start scraping reddit like it did for 30% of Geocities or whatever because Reddit this kills the Reddit. Everything that matters is scattered to the winds already like when they killed Oink or The Silk Road or MySpace or AOL or whatever. Seriously though. Reddit is a trove. We should be making a directed effort to archive it as completely as we can. It is kind of their property. I guess. Just as much as the four sites left on the internet are largely populated with screen shots from the other sites... but yeah. I do not have the time to spearhead this, but I can set up a repo and push out an idea and I'd gladly dump some cash into Archive.org and I think a lot of other people would to.
I really really think if that's isn't already happening it should. The conversations on that platform are our cultural heritage and this scumbag shit can suck my fucking dick. Die in a fire quarterly capital sleep under a painting of a lion dickwheels. Gut me for my past again. I dare you.

Sure, very little info for such bold claims, and clickbait. I got mad respect for Mapbox. I do hate ArcGIS. We are ready to back it up though. I've been working on this stack for close to eight years and finally the available tooling has caught up. Ready to launch. Ask me anything. I can't preview the current iteration but I'm happy to show some proof in some older tech demo videos if anyone is curious. I'm also really interested in what people who work in this space are really really looking for that they don't see in the tools they use.

Hypothetically, I was going to object to this but then I realized I haven't quite proven it to the level that I'd give to kids. We are juuuust starting to get the inspection tools and I really just in the last couple months got my auth and network drive provisioning worked out where it could be a thing... but yeah. It's all bullshit until it isn't.
I really haven't put that idea out aside from to my partner I just realized. I'm glad you find it compelling. I think a thing that I like about it is that the same thing we want for children, inspection into it's contents and providence or training from scratch or amalgamating trusted models or agents, we're always going to want to know and have for ourselves too.
WARNING: Discussion of Self Harm
https://medium.com/@millerhooks/youtube-told-me-to-kill-myse...
I think when I wrote this article fairly drunk and manic and was like "I should try medium.com" during the last US insurrection impeachment hearings... I dunno, scroll down to the bottom where I talk about choose your own adventure books if you want to skip my opening wanky prose. Eh, yeah. I think it's a fun tough read. I think the reason I got to the conclusion is directly related to why this is important for protection of everyone. But I think when I wrote that is when the model and interface pattern we need for that thing popped into my head and it grew. It's nice that it could easily be org-mode compatible. I'm pretty much there with my data, training, and meshvpn/mTLS cluster of clusters that is cool with talking to your cluster. But yeah, parents want the same things but they also wanna run whacky AIs and shit that can connect to the web. Keep the kids air gapped and build close networks of people to share tools with that you can audit. I think that's just "the pattern" that should emerge.
I don't claim to have invented it, but if it turns out I did I guess I'm gonna call them "Media Prophylactic Agents". I wanted to come up with something funny or an neat acronym, but I think that's just what they are called.

It's neat to see someone taking the "first" (quotes because maybe there's been others) stab at this. This is sort of like this thing I've been thinking for a few years now that the way we use the internet is over and likely people will just raise collections of AIs from federated forks from people they trust and interact with collections of forkable agents. This would mean your kids can grow up with collections of agents that they take with them and you can inspect the data that the agents can give them before the child can interact with the agents. The way we've been doing social media is so toxic and over. Everyone is over it. Daily driving needs a profalactic. Not that a seasoned and consenting adult can't just raw dog the feed, but yeah... I like this concept and effort. I don't see it being the hub, because well... it's a hub. The big thing with trustable agents is you need to know everything about them and they can't live on servers you don't control. I hope someone else beats me to the real solution because I'm burnt out but I've got a good portion of an MVP nailed down. This concept doesn't work if I want to make it a megacorp I don't think. I think as it accelerates it's going to strip the megacorps for parts. I don't even think my MVP is important. I've been around the block long enough to know that waiting for someone else to get out what I'm looking for can be a forever wait but I think with how GPU/ASM to the edge is working out, this is an emergent normal form that's going to pop. The ways we can really just almost like right now today but really by Q3 I think the big stuff is going to splash and a lot of what we know is going to change because the everything connector just about done I guess.

Yeah, Op is so off base here. I do think that George still gets astroturfed by Muskateers though. Possibly even Musk's paid for army, but I think they are still cool with each other. But people who wanna cuddle an Elon will just jump in and crap on George or Comma quick. He was for sure more than a bit manic when he debut Comma, but their tools work and they have been in quite a bit of use for a while and their new robot platform is pretty cool. I don't think self driving cars can really be solved in the US but whatever, I hear the Mercedes stuff is surprisingly good. I'm not a twitch guy buy I joined a stream he was doing one day where he was live coding SLAM. I've done a lot of work with slam and not only is he a very good programmer but while doing the work to an audience he was able to have a brief but compelling conversation with me about his strategy. If my girl knocks on the door to bring me coffee while I'm coding I lose my place.
He's not involved with Comma much anymore and he's 100% right that Nvidia hasn't won the race yet.
I worked at Nvidia on RAPIDS. From what I understand, they've gotten better but it's still a very traditional MS style company. CUDA is amazing and is something akin to x86 with it's ubiquity. It's the fastest and best to work with but is an albatross and it's being used to accelerate the development of it's replacements. I feel his pain with this AMD stuff. I bailed on them in 2018. They do not have the ability to ship real compute tooling.
Also the myriad of ways we can now bridge to the browser with WebGPU and WebASM and Vulkan.... and FPGAs and next year photonic computing is going to start trickling in and then it's going to become. a flood. I think there are two fabs in the US. I plan to ship some test designs to SkyWater in August. With the end of globalization, photonics are going to be where we move quick.
I like Geohot. I really enjoyed his punk ass spirit as a young guy and I think he's grown up to being a decent example of how to be a tech public figure. His soundcloud is dope. Not only does it have some good songs but a few of them are about valley inside baseball that has not ever been reported anywhere but his music.
https://soundcloud.com/tomcr00se/
