Is it? If you project a "3D" singularity onto a surface, it's still a point. If you project a roughly spherical object, it's roughly circular.

Gauss' law in this case would apply to the total force of gravity exerted by the mass within the shell, not its distribution across the surface of the shell.

Software unions are a good idea. Many SWEs don't need collective bargaining to command high salaries, so the value of unions is in providing better job security.

Forming a union at a software company is likely to be an uphill battle though. There is a lot of misinformation about unions, like the assumption that unions _must_ govern comp. And years of high salaries have enabled many SWEs to make investments or purchases such that they no longer depend upon a salary for their living; they're no longer working-class and unions hold no benefit for them.

I would argue that the Minds enable The Culture's utopia. Special Circumstances may theoretically have the capacity to direct events within The Culture, but their efforts are near-exclusively directed without and in the only example to the contrary, those efforts fail rather spectacularly (Excession).

This isn't necessarily bad advice, but I agree with @jacknews, it's exhausting. If the essay(s) included a disclaimer or essay one discussed the benefits of pacing yourself, this would be a far more grounded series of articles.
