I do not want a billion dollars, there is no ethical way to get a billion dollars. If I accidentally had a billion dollars I would get rid of the billion dollars as quickly as possible.

I would be a billionaire for about 5 minutes because I'd spend 95% of it making the lives of others better and still have enough left over that neither me nor any of my immediate family ever has to work again instead of hoarding it like the monsters who end up actually having a billion dollars.

Just because there are real world failures doesn't mean they didn't do simulations. It could just mean the simulation didn't account for something different in the real world.

The website for software engineers is assuming that a production failure means nobody did any testing before prod...

It's a requirement to reach the levels they have reached. Someone with empathy would get enough money to take care of their family (maybe even for multiple generations) and then be satisfied and focus on reducing the suffering of others instead of running up the score on net worth

I've been a developer for 20 years, I do some reverse engineering stuff on the side using assembly.

There hasn't been a single time in 20 years that it was actually relevant for real work in any way.

Unless you are doing very specific work knowing assembly is about as useful as knowing COBOL (which is also useful for a very specific kind of work that most devs will never do)

Everything worked out in the end for Eric Schmidt because he rode computers to billionaire status.

It did not always work out so great for the people who were replaced, and the people who were replaced were a much smaller percentage of the workforce than the tech CEOs are claiming will be replaced by AI.

People largely go to college to train for the white collar jobs that tech CEOs are claiming are going to be entirely replaced by LLMs, where's the hope for the people that just spent six figures learning how to do jobs that people like Schmidt are trying their hardest to eliminate?
