I'm really interested if there are more historical attempts that I'm not aware of!
I've added:
- Soviet Revolutionary Calendar
- Ancient Egyptian
- French Republican
- Intl Fixed Calendar

I'm a big fan of history's many attempts to square the circle: divide a hard to factorized number (days in a year) into even chunks, without sacrificing things like agricultural seasons.
This little project explores different calendar versions. I have highlighted my favorite solution :)
- 6 days / week
- 5 weeks / month
- 3 months / quarter
- 4 quarters / year
As a good European the remainder 5 days are end of year holidays.
You can also select some of the historical attempts.

My brother turned 39, I shipped his gift from a shop directly to him (we live in different countries and couldn't travel home due to my son being born)... Shop wouldn't let me add a postcard. So I went looking for a quick e-card service and every single one was painful; Hallmark wants a subscription, Paperless Post has a coin system, Canva technically works but you're designing a greeting card in a full design tool.
I wanted the tinyletter version of this. You write something, pick a photo, get a link; that's it. No account, no email wall and nothing to install. The recipient taps the link and the card opens with a little animation (flip, envelope, fold :D I (Claude) spent way too long getting the CSS 3D to feel right on mobile).
Built on Cloudflare Workers + D1, React Router 7, images from Unsplash. Free cards expire after 14 days. I added a $3.99 one-time premium if you want to schedule it: but the payment doesn't work right now :) ie didn't have a chance to hook up to Stripe yet.
I built this while my newborn son was sleeping next to me.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I've thought about making this more generic and not just about a gift :) I'll put it on my todo to update it.
Regarding the photo credit & expiration, I'll see how I can move it a bit more to the bottom.

My brother just had his 39th birthday and as we live in different cities I sent a present to him directly from the shop (it was a gym bag for those who are curious).
The shop didn't let me add a postcard or anything personal to the package so I went looking for an easy/fast eCard service that I considered aesthetically pleasing.
It was a very frustrating search. I thought of creating it with Figma but didn't feel like spending more time building a postcard design (also I wanted it to open in a cool way!!). So I created an app :D (cue Rick & Morty "lets-build-an-app" guy)
This was created with the sentiment how tinyletter (RIP) offered a functional/minimal solution to bloated software.

365 is nearly prime (5×73), which is why our months are uneven and weeks don't fit into months. But 360 has 24 divisors — swap 5 days for year-end holidays and you unlock dozens of clean calendar systems where every month is identical.
I built a tool to explore them all: pick a base, see every valid factorization, compare against Gregorian side-by-side.

I was playing around with divisors of numbers near 365 and realized you can generate a ton of valid calendar systems by picking a highly composite base (like 360) and treating the leftover days as end-of-year extra holidays.
365 is nearly prime (5×73), which is why our months are such a mess. But 360 has 24 divisors; enough to build clean hierarchies like 6-day weeks, 5-week months, 3-month quarters, 4 quarters/year + 5 holidays (6 on leap years). Every month identical, every date always the same weekday.
Built a small tool to explore all valid factorizations across different bases (336, 350, 354, 360, 364, 365), with a Gregorian comparison view that really highlights how arbitrary the current system is. Radial year visualization, work/rest analysis, season alignment, etc.
I've also added historical calendars, like the French Revolutionary calendar that was created in a similar sentiment.
Code facilitated by Claude Opus 4.6
Let me know what I should add, or if you catch a bug/mistaken logic!

When I select a destination at a bus stop or train station the listings only show the specifics but not the city itself. This kind of defeats the whole purpose as its essentially randomly clicking around
