It's the device, not the power source. I have an old iPod shuffle that won't charge at all with of those USB wall chargers - it requires a computer.

Would this work with ads? Organic, free traffic from HN and blogs is nice, but it seems more like a low probability gamble than something you could count on. Your growth is going to be random and you really can't do any projections.

The lifetime value of each subscriber is really high, so it seems to make sense that you could spend $XX in customer acquisition costs.

I've wanted to do something similar for a while, but this is really my only sticking point.

But companies like Pandora and Spotify aren't profitable even at these numbers. If this artist made 10x as much, he'd still be upset at only making $40 for 14,227 music plays and these streaming companies wouldn't be able to function. This is also a barrier to entry for new startups that want to offer music streaming.

There doesn't seem to be a number that artists would be happy getting and that music streaming companies could actually offer them.

Mtgox and Bitstamp suspended withdrawals due to a vulnerability. People have to sell in order to withdraw funds.
