I was riding my motorcycle in heavy rains and had a book in my work bag which, as I later found out, doesn't resist water at all, and the book got soaked. Half the pages puffed up, and I hated myself for it at first, but after a while I realized I like it even better since it feels like the book has been through something with me and I will always remember that incident whenever I think about the book.

Though admittedly, caring about this is even more vapid than caring about my books being pristine.

I had problems waking up and was looking for an alarm clock on Amazon. But I could only find analog clocks with the famously unreliably moments, and digital clocks which were overpriced and looked ugly. This feels like a real gap in the market, so I'm working on making my own alarm clock. It's a simple enough project but includes PCB design and modelling the case, etc, which I don't have experience in.

Should we really be using words like "correct" for something like this? It's just a tradeoff, you could say it's a better solution optimizing for fewer dead people, but it is in no way a morally superior solution. You could just as easily argue that not vaccinating at all and letting COVID spread would be a better solution for a nation since COVID overwhelmingly killed old and unhealthy people who are otherwise a drag on the economy.

What dictionary are you using? I installed the app on android and am not able to type "fuck", neither with the inbuilt dictionary nor from an imported English (UK) dictionary from their site. Even typing it manually doesn't seem to add it to the dictionary, which makes it really annoying to use.

Are you sure you can't do those thing through websites? You can definitely order an Uber with the browser on your phone, for instance.

I hope more people boycott products that require making an account to use. Most developers who would care about this sort of thing seem to draw the line at requiring a subscription, but IMO requiring an account is just as bad. There are cases where you do need an account for syncing data or whatever, but I don't see why I need an account for a fitness tracker, just show me the stats on the watch itself. Worst example of this is phones requiring an account to let you install apps, how did we let them get away with this?

The caps lock thing always happens with me haha, the funnest thing is other people are unable to understand hitting caps lock is more ergonomic than right ctrl.

I've been using firefox's viewport zoom to improve website visibility a lot these days. Traditional zoom reflows the page, but the viewport zoom keeps the page the same, just makes it bigger. You might know this from pinching out on the touchpad on a laptop, but you can do this on a keyboard by setting `mousewheel.with_$KEY.action` to 5 to perform viewport zoom by having a keyboard key pressed. I use it with alt, and use AHK to bind XB2+scroll to emit alts instead (I make it emit ctrl regularly but alt when a firefox window is focused). It has been one of my best usability improvements recently. It's one of those things that, if you make ergonomic enough, you end up using on every single website, since you can make the column width the optimal size for your readability.

Only for a scale approaching github's, otherwise a gitea instance or whatever doesn't have any interdependent components other than the server you host it on, which won't have nearly as low a downtime as github (though that's a low bar, a better way to phrase it would be saying it would pretty much never be down).
