A lot of the good is still there -- e.g. the nature, the unusually high level of drive/determination/spirit/openness. At least compared to northern Europe where I'm from.
Unfortunately tilting towards fascism outweighs those.

I love the US; I’ve lived there and held an H-1B visa. Moving there permanently was a teenage dream of mine.
Unfortunately the country in that dream no longer exists. I now avoid jobs that require travel to the US. As a non-American it makes a lot more sense to focus on building up the tech centres closer to home.

Yes -- it's definitely alpha software, but usable for open source. There are interesting experiments like tack[1] to wire in custom CI. I imagine they'll be able to support private repos eventually once ATProto supports private data, but that may take some time.
[1]: https://tangled.org/mitchellh.com/tack

Aha, I was mistaken -- I was under the impression that repos were also stored on the PDS.
Looks like that's where knots come in -- you could replace "PDS" with "PDS and knot" in my earlier comment and it holds true, I believe.

In this case the benefit would be:
- your data lives in one place, your Personal Data Server (PDS). You can self-host this if you like
- The AppView (in this case, tangled.org) aggregates the data from many PDS's into one view.
- If tangled.org enshittifies, you can do all the same things from any other AppView -- tangled.org itself is not privileged in any way.
Social logins on independent forges help, but personally I'd rather have a single account to manage -- and the AT protocol means that any individual forge can go down, but the data remains accessible from other AppViews.

There's an AT protocol working group for private data: https://atproto.wiki/en/working-groups/private-data
But you're right, the protocol doesn't currently support this.

Was not meant ironically. I understand how in practice it's a political role (as most positions of power are) but I think it's applying the wrong standard to expect religious leaders to communicate like politicians.
