Pretty sure discord is the PHPbb of today. That seems to be the place where people's congregate and the communities are smaller.

I'm similar except idk about silence, My preference would be natural local sounds, wind,bugs, birds (not mockingbirds lol) but have to settle for music pretty often.

Good code apparent doesn't matter. Most software doesn't have real repurcussions for being bad. You just get a shittier oncall which doesn't seem to matter to some people

My last job was like that, it was miserable having no agency. The whole team was from fang companies and were all ok with the tell me what to do dynamic.

I don't think devs are that expensive relative to a big company.

Airbnbs revenue last year was 12b. If they have 1000 engineers,maybe average 200k/yr that's only 200m. If they got rid of their engineers still only a fraction of of the revenue

YouTube is just a big dump of information. Having a structured way to learning along with interacting helps you learn. Otherwise you're just binging information

I've been curious about leaving software but it really feels impossible. Theresa no careers that you can learn on the job and you need to go back for another 4year degree to maybe get into the entry level job,no guarantee though.
