Codeberg is run by a German association, which defines its role in the bylaws to support FOSS (§2 in the bylaws). You can use their software Forgejo to run your own server.

Just because the government does something, doesn't mean it has to be centralised. Eventually the care has to be given from one human to another human. On the other hand, it shouldn't matter where you live to receive care or how good the care is.

And the week in which private companies will be able to provide this, is the same week which has two Tuesdays.

My argument is, that care is a public good. There will never be a situation in which care can fund itself. To fund care is a political decision and when the decision is made to to not fund it or leave to a market or private enterprises it will fail, because private enterprises need something which will eventually scale.

1 and 2. there are tires which are less likely to flat, e.g. the Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

2. a well maintained bicycle is very reliable, even if it is older

3. yeah, it is like walking. get a rain coat when your forecast says it might rain.

4. my advice get a hub dynamo to power your lights, never worry about charged batteries again. flash mode is not a good idea, also illegal in some places. helmets are overrated and are essentially victim blaming. But I get where is this coming from, instead of building a safe infrastructure the cities put the responsibility to be safe on the bicycle rider.

5. get a better sattle, never really had an issue.

6. very much depends on the place, in my town I'm as fast as a car on many daily routes, simply because I can use more direct routes.

7. what kind of bicycle are you using? everyday bicycles shouldn't do that, a good bicycle let's you ride w/o backpain. maybe your bicycle is too small or too big for you, they are not a one size fits all kind of thing.

It is not about becoming a "biker" or "cyclist" it is about that a bicycle is a good mode of everyday transportation and a very much less harmful one for cities. Not just in the Netherlands.

hub gears with a belt instead of a chain was a big reason for my current bicycle. Also having a hub dynamo (which is/should be standard nowadays) a nice thing.

I'm really confused about those overdraft fees (or rather overdraft interests). My bank has also charges overdraft interests, they are currently 6.99% p.a. So if I get into overdraft due to one payment but money comes in on the very same day it shouldn't be that much interest I have to pay to the bank.

For an overdraft of 100 euros it should be like 2 cents for a day.

I wonder what will inspire Zuckerberg for the name. Google founders Page and Brin were apperantly inspired by the ABC-Straße in Hamburg, where the German Google offices are located.

I used to submit bug reports for things I found in macOS or any other applications, like that Pages would include a huge picture in the files for no reason at all. But those bug reports would usually be closed and "linked" to another bug report you don't have access to. Essentially shutting you out. At some point you just give up. At some point bugs are getting fixed but there is no pattern to it.

I currently use an Synology DS116, a small and simple NAS which I mostly use to backup my Mac via Time Mashine but I can't even find if this is supported on such a machine. It seems it is an NAS but without the being called a NAS, e.g. I haven't found anything about SMB or SFTP support.

Love how during the presentation suddenly a chat window appeared while I still was paying attention to the presentation, I had to refocus to deal with that one. At first I thought it was part of it but it wasn't. I'm not sure if the person pays attention to their own advice.

macOS 12 will also scan uploads to iCloud and I'm pretty sure iMessage for minors will also have the backdoor active. So, macOS is as vulnerable as iOS.

Depends on what you mean with unify? Apple locked up macOS more and more over the years and I guess or fear, it is just a question of time until you can no longer install apps outside the App Store. After that the difference between macOS and iOS is just the UI.

The issue is, it is all software settings. The iMessage filter is only active for acconts held by minors, that can be changed by Apple. Might not even be a client side setting. Also the code which can scan uploaded images can be used anywhere, scan every picture which is being stored on the device. It is all software and everything which is needed is one update.

This is a weird interpretation of privacy law and makes no sense to me. If I upload a file to Google Drive I expect them to be there as long as I don't delete the file. You could argue, that emptying the bin after 30 days would be needed to fulfill those requirements. But having an inactive account shouldn't. These privacy laws mostly deals with all the other data Google is collecting about its users while they are using the service.

This doesn't really apply here, this is about data which is stored by the users on the services for being stored on those services according to the ToS of Google. So, it the purpose is only expired when a user decides to delete the data.
