It sounds like what you're saying is that AGI should have some sort of free will. I'm not sure why you would add that as a requirement. Could you expand?

You’re overestimating their ability to change. I still regularly have to pay in cash in many businesses here in Berlin.

Wero is a great start but I suspect that PayPal will stay around for many more years.

jQuery is certainly still used in a lot of production apps and they still release updates.

But most new web apps will use a flavor of React.

I'm seeing this nostalgic sentiment a lot on forums these days, but it's not just about bringing back ye old usenet groups: you also need to bring back the way people thought back then. It's hard.

I've done something similar myself with Kindle Cloud Reader a few months ago. For the purpose of language learning, I wanted to extract the surrounding context of every word I highlighted in books I read. Turns out it's impossible only with the device.

On Kindle Cloud Reader, Amazon serves images for the pages of the book, so you can't directly read the text. But you can indeed OCR the images and extract the context like that. I created a small browser extension with Claude.

It's crazy how difficult Amazon made this process for reasonable use cases like that.

I'd be interested to read more about it, as I believe that I have the same problem and I am also trying to remove reddit from my life.

I think that a carefully designed solution using LLMs could be the way, if it could correctly filter what I'd still want to read. I'm not sure that a browser extension is the way since it could too easily pull me back to the website. But I haven't really tried any solution like that for now, except for the simple keyword filters in RES.

For now, I'm using Cold Turkey to block some news subreddits, and News Feed Eradicator to remove all feeds. I can still visit specific subreddits and read threads. I don't think that's the right solution, but it helps me notice my patterns.

In any case, if you're interested in collaborating on this, let me know. It could be an interesting little project to work on.

As someone also building a language-learning app for myself, it's not too hard to create an excellent app right now, but the "readily available" part of your requirements is now 10x harder than a few years ago. Users are getting bombarded by new apps, so marketing an app, which was already hard before AI, is now much, much harder.

I could try to market this app, but I tried that 2 years ago, and it was already essentially a failure. So I'm probably going to keep it for myself or just try to find a few users who like it and will use it for free.

This doesn’t work well with hard science lectures like physics or math.

Even when just copying what the professor what writing on the blackboard I could barely keep up.

It’s hard to summarize those lectures on the fly, and it might be a mistake as you’ll miss some important steps.

I personally hate handwriting. My handwriting is ugly and slow, and I keep making annoying mistakes that I can’t fix. It’s generally a terrible experience.

If given the choice I’ll always type.

LSD actually has an anti addictive effect. There are multiple studies about it, for example on smoking cessation (IIRC). It's pretty interesting. You're unlikely to get addicted to it.

I thought I had UARS too, and did a sleep study. I couldn't sleep at all when I was there. My neurologist then just gave me fucking prozac.

It's not that simple to figure out what's going on unfortunately.
