The stack described in this article would not have been extremely stable if memory serves. It seems likely to me the setup is one server, one client. In the live TV setting described, these sort of tactics seem like a decent trade. There’s a director of the show who can work around any technical problems encountered on the big board.

That part stood out to me too. However this article was from 2018, not last week it seems to me.

We did live debugging like this at the time, wouldn’t today.

This reminds me of asking an HPC researcher what they use the cluster to do. He used it to make and simulate better HPCs.

This reminds me of a slightly different take. AI will allow us to deliver on promises made over the past 20 years. For instance, CI/CD is actually happening now like evangelists claimed before and it really does unlock tremendous value, mostly through efficiency.

Anyone noticed the trend of tools being more read than write, with writes shifting to agentic tools and natural language instruction?

It makes me wonder about the web a bit and whether it becomes glossier, more video driven but ultimately less directly maleable.

Do people prefer streaming text over static pages?

Debatable and definitely semantic - at the very least this requires putting the audio into a buffer, so a newly mallocd block of memory. Sure, it’s not a recording in a conventional sense, but it is a copy of data.

The World Cup is broadcast in many different languages with the same video feed. That’s likely one of the main reasons audio fingerprinting is better than video. You also get better idea of the target demographics language preferences and that leads to more relevant advertisements.

I was thinking more like interactive content. Do you remember when VH1 had a pop-up music video show?

Shows could synchronize additional content that’d be visible when Shazam mode enabled.
