I was thinking more like interactive content. Do you remember when VH1 had a pop-up music video show?
Shows could synchronize additional content that’d be visible when Shazam mode enabled.

Perhaps obviously this is the same technique that enables ACR on TVs.
It occurs to me that Shazam has such a better reputation online because the intent and consent of the user is honored.
It makes me wonder if there couldn’t be an implementation on TVs that is similar and actually is a net positive for consumers. Basically would customers actually like TV ACR if the data wasn’t just going to sell more ads?

> on his last show on the Tonight Show, he told his audience to be kind and work hard
Conan really handled that disaster with tremendous grace and it paid immediate dividends. I can’t really think of a similar situation in popular culture. It is a good reminder of how to handle oneself especially during turmoil.

> Satellite TV uses a file system called an MPEG transport stream that allows multiple audio, video, or data layers to be packaged into a single stream file.
Interesting read but that part really made me question my own sanity. It’s probably just lost in translation.

One theory I saw argued the punch card size was the reason for 80x24. But why were punch cards that size? They were designed off of the cards used for the census. Why were the census cards that size? Because they were modeled after the dollar bill size.
I do love thought experiments like this but do believe they’re insatiably unresolvable.

> I actually do real political work
I’m not even sure why but this sentiment rubs me the wrong way.
Perhaps it’s that what’s resonated most to me about democracy is the premise that it is all “for the people, of the people, by the people.”
There’s something exclusive about that statement.
