You can say all you want about NPR or PBS being "left-leaning". But isn't this just a symptom of them telling the truth vs the lies that are spouted out of this administration every single day? If you report the truth now, I guess you're "left-leaning" or "biased" vs reporting whatever the admin says as fact with no comment or fact checking.
NPR and PBS fact check their reporting and have real journalists. Fox News lies all of the time on the air and has media personalities as hosts. Yes, of course, there's no absolutes and some hosts or shows are more biased than others, and people make mistakes. Hosts show their biases unconsciously sometimes too. If your host lives in New York for instance, their views are shaped by that, vs if they live in Kentucky.
But this politicization of National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service is ridiculous and just shows how much this administration is trying to get us into a post-truth world. Facts matter!
Don't succumb to this Culture of Fear.

Fair point. I'm mostly just making a reference to the Lonely Island + Seth Meyers podcast. Every few episodes they joke about being in "an Golden Era" of SNL :). But they also do point out that people tend to idolize the folks from the era they grew up in for sure as well!

Sorry, I guess I meant "sketch comedy". But a lot of it is written the week before/of the show. So what I meant to say was something like "it's all pretty off the cuff" vs a movie or other show I guess, and that unpolished quality is what makes some things super funny to me or just not hit at all. Again, feels hit or miss.

Hi HN, I thought I'd let you know that "Ashby HQ", some kind of new recruiting software, has a tool to look up emails via 3rd parties that they will not let engineers opt out of.
After getting a lot of recruiting spam over the years, I am always trying to opt out of it. Usually when there's an uptick, some new service like Ashby that lets people spam engineers has started.
Typically these services let people opt out, but after emailing back and forth with support, it seems Ashby "uses third parties" for this data and will not let engineers stop employers from getting their email, even if they don't want to be contacted.
Just putting this out there for any engineer thinking of working for them or who notices an uptick in recruiter spam that can't be stopped. I find this behavior really sad, personally, an email with no way to unsubscribe.
Please upvote if you support data privacy and the right to be forgotten :).

Interesting...the name of this makes it sound like criminals will be using it to transfer cash around the world, like with gift cards?
Genuinely I'm curious, is there really a big market around gifting crypto, or is that market just sort of a front for criminal activity like why some retailers see a spike in gift card sales?

Wow, what a negative, pessimistic comment. It just makes me sad to read.
Here you have a bunch of software engineers doing something none of us were brave enough to do, forming a union, fighting for their rights, striking when they're being ignored.
Then they have a hackathon to build a few things in a few days, symbolizing the power of software! Look at all the cool stuff they made in just that time.
How else would you have wanted it to go?
