<p>If the goal is to reduce the number of vacant homes, then why not create a tax on those specifically. Corporate owned homes and vacant homes are not the same thing at all.</p>

<p>I think big box stores are popular largely because it would be inconvenient to drive between many smaller shops just to find the same variety of goods. It’s the same dynamic we see with car-dependent shopping malls, where the main advantage is being able to park once and visit multiple stores. If instead you had to re-park at each individual store, the experience would be far less convenient.<p>But if a town is designed to be fully walkable so that people can easily walk from store to store (similar to the experience of shopping inside a indoor mall), then I think the appeal of large one-stop-shop stores is greatly reduced.</p>

<p>If you use one of those smaller paid email providers you can still interact with people who use Gmail. If you tried to create a small Instagram competitor it's unlikely that Facebook would ever agree to federate with you.</p>

<p>I think the pricing is alright. If for $7.99/mo someone can effectively solve their procrastination problem that seems totally worth it. Comparing it to the pricing on something like OmniFocus which is $9.99/mo, seems like there is a market of people willing to pay for this type of software.</p>

<p>The way I see it is that the main difference between FANG and TikTok is that the FANG companies do not have any incentive to sow distrust and division in the United States through highly targeted propaganda, however, TikTok being effectively controlled by the CCP does.</p>
