I’ve used Pi’s quite a bit and probably could have used something else for a lot of applications. When the Pi Pico came out that was an absolute dream for a lot more projects but still lacked the amount of RAM and Flash memory for some projects. Recently I came across the Waveshare ESP32-P4-Module Basic Kit that has 16MB of Flash and 8MB of PSRAM. The board comes in a Pi form factor with the 40 header and MIPI connections for camera and LCD. I’ve been able to port a Linux app by using the ESP IDF port of FreeRTOS and Vuejs/Tailwind for a web UI. The ESP32 P4 has dual core 360/400MHz RISC 5 with a Ethernet port. Waveshare added the C6 to the SOM if you want WiFi. That device is now my go to for anything that used to be done on a Pi. For a lot of other things the ESP32 S3 with the slower flash and PSRAM is the lowest cost that you can find.

I started a new software defined automation project. I wanted something that I could just open a webpage and start writing code that could just be uploaded and ran instantly. I picked an ESP32-P4 for the first hardware. It’s MIT licensed and has a git repo that I put up this morning https://github.com/OpenPiLab/pilab-esp32-p4-plc

Another scripting language that I’ve been using in embedded systems with a little more memory is AngelScript. It’s underrated in this space. It’s very easy to extend and has the advantage of being a subset of C/C++.

The company I work for was given grant money by the Canadian government to invest in research and development. I was told by my boss that because xx% of my wage was paid by the goverment that I was required to do community work that supported Universities (this was a lie). I wrote a substantial piece of software that required me to pay for the development tools. More than half of the work was done at my home unpaid. The software was open sourced with my bosses approval. During a routine IT audit at our facility corporate IT found out about the project and demanded it be taken down immediately and that there was no agreement with the government whatsoever.
I never kept track of the amount of time that I worked on the project since it was open source work and so couldn't accurately say how may hours were involved but it was over the course of a couple of years and was in the thousands of hours researching and writing / testing code. Needless to say the company refused to pay me for anything because I couldn't prove exactly how many hours I worked on the software. The story gets even more crazy but it's too long to go into.
Any thoughts on how you would handle something like this?

Exactly, this is a very professional looking scam. They should invest their time into something productive instead of stealing other peoples money.
