With video games in particular, a lot of them weren't really planned in advance to be successes. They were just ideas that ended up getting made.

Japan doesn't seem to take the hero fantasy thing as seriously. It seems to be more about escapism in general and what the show and characters are "about," even if that's not really very deep to begin with.

I have 5 blue jays in my yard and they don't care about the sparrows, finches, etc at all. They only feud with the crows.
