> React (ie virtual dom) is a beauty in this regard and if you don’t use it, you would have a hard time creating any gui with a certain level of difficulty
Anyone who didn’t grow up building stuff prior to 2010 would have difficulty.
we don’t need react in 2024. And it’s only making things worse now. Not better.

> I'm not sure if most browsers under iOS already use blink by the way, as far as I know they are still almost all running WebKit.
Google last year stated they are working on bringing blink to iOS. They called it an experiment but obviously knew iOS was being forced to open up. So it’s happening (not yet but they are working on it). IE6 all over again.

So you’re saying Google does not control the rendering engine and these competitor browsers have contributed functionality to the core rendering engine or added additional rendering functionality that isn’t in chromium?

Why because your belovered maintainer is hostile and you can cope?
There are tons of maintainers out there who have poor communication skills who don’t care if you submit a pull request fixing a bug, or raise an issue detailing a bug. They will shrug you off and make you feel like OSS is a waste of time.
Get over yourself and stop getting on your knees to suck him off like he’s some god.

> Apple's total control of all aspects of the iPhone platform is harmful to consumers in a way that is not at all obvious, especially not to the less technologically literate.
This would only be true if Android did not exist.
But the reality is it’s not harmful at all.

Of course I post on a throwaway. HN is full of idiots who downvote cos it goes against what they believe in.
Fact is Facebook has been advertising using user data on messenger and WhatsApp. Some believe it’s not possible and some theorise that they analysis the message on the device and send metadata over.
But it doesn’t change the fact Facebook is in control of the whole pipeline.
