Moderation a conversation implies somebody is getting threatened with their comment being deleted or account suspended. That is censorship. Moderation is just the brand friendly term for it.

With great time, and care. Discord managed to do this in only 4 years, so it is possible. The cynical side of me says that a distributed social network, by definition, doesn't have the ability to run large marketing campaigns like Discord.

It's worth mentioning that this is a myth. Invisible maintenance work on old products can be very impactful if done correctly.

Part of the issue is the constant churn, not just change. It's change for change's sake, and more broadly, complexity for it's own sake.

Take microservices for example. Classic cargo culting development of what Google and Facebook are doing, but usually without a dedicated staffing team of hundreds. No wonder devs are burning out if they have to learn how to run a k8s cluster where a simple binary would've sufficed.

If it looks like a scam, then false positives are unavoidable. These companies are trying to protect average people from being scammed on their services, and I would honestly prefer they keep doing this. I do not want to spend hours on the phone to the bank with a shaken grandparent again (after they get cryptoscammed).

Claiming they are against "privacy-first services" is just creating a victim narrative where one does not exist. As people keep saying here on this very website, these platforms do not owe you a microphone.

Also, just one bit of advice, most developer types will have adblockers, so you're really not going to have a great time trying to target them with adverts.

As far as I'm aware, it's just Google Search underneath but with telly included. I doubt they'll charge for inclusion but do expect ads.

I'm not a puritan by any means, but literally millions of kids use this app. It's not a good idea to have these things mixed.

My point is that the industry really hasn't moved on from the old LAMP stack if it's been replaced by a single company. When it truly comes down to it, the day-to-day tools are not ours if they aren't open.

And if deploying a lambda function on my own hardware is vastly more complex, then the tools haven't really changed, they just got outsourced.

There are a bunch of semi-standards like Serverless Framework and Knative, but nothing concrete.

Lambda is a proprietary solution that only works for people on AWS. Linux is open, and I just need to put it on a box. How do I install the AWS Lambda stack on a standard Linux box?

No, of course not. On a small website, the bots are such a huge part of the logs that the whole exercise becomes an attempt at extracting understanding from random noise. It's why those visitor count widgets died out years ago.

If we want to reach AGI within the lifetime of the universe, and quantum effects are required for consciousness [within the lifetime etc...], it stands to reason we'd need quantum computers.

Digital Wellbeing on Android was one major example of something that seemed to have come from this. I believe iOS also built something similar.
