Freedom of speech is the concept, and 1st amendment is an implementation. The maximal possible implementation given the rest of constitution that came before it. So it's not just government in principle, only in practice.

Same debate around free healthcare et al, which last time I checked somebody had to provide.

Calling 911 is one of those times when I really, really don't want to see permission popups. If I'm in a car crash, I ain't going to be lucid enough to make sure the permissions are set properly. I am almost certain there are legal restrictions in this direction.

To be fair, Google, Facebook, et al chose to have monorepos when they were startups, so it's not necessarily cargo culting to look at what they did. I'd argue part of the success was cultural - with everything in one repo there isn't generally specific folders which are restricted in these large codebases, and that helps with a bunch of things.

Last time I checked, I'm a human being who is hardwired to understand these social cues. They're essential for having a conversation in any way that isn't just exhausting for me. It's not a lack of trust. My monkey brain just struggles to parse remotely held conversations.

I guarantee you that most people back then would've been hunting, farming, building huts or rearing children. There is no model of the past where this level of isolation was even maintainable. People simply depend on each other to live.

All that changed is that we've outsourced that direct dependence with indirect dependencies, like supermarkets.

I would also say that the approaches taken by something like AlphaGo are more interesting, too. Because unlike chess the solution space for Go is too large to simply look at all possible moves.

If your services are backwards compatible to talk to each other, then you don't need to release instantly. Making breaking changes is tricky, but you don't need to release everything.
