I'm honestly baffled someone could be "losing confidence in Amazon" in 2022. Sorry for the expression but like, where the f** have you been? I thought everybody already knows how horrible Amazon is in its absolute, demonic entirety.
This company always felt wrong. Like a shitty bootleg toy shop. Like a shady back-alley dealer. Like a cheap Chinese (sorry, it's a popular pejorative here) scam site. Strewn with knock-offs, bootlegs, mass fake reviews, terrible customer service. Oh and the site always felt really, really off in UI and UX, it's still like that.
Later in life I (unfortunately) became more aware of the world around me, became a programmer and so on. But my sentiment starts way earlier than AWS.
Here in Poland (born&living) it's Allegro that was always our Amazon & eBay. Was (and still is) above and beyond the Bezos-ian quality of service. I'm almost sure people still almost never use Amazon here. For the longest time we'd have to use amazon.de for buying stuff if you want it shipped to Poland. I think that's not the case anymore but yeah... uncanny.
BTW I wouldn't be surprised if AWS was the most popular of all services offered by Bezos Co. in Poland.

I'm the same. I'm literally cathartic that someone had this same experience. I never, ever heard complete silence - there was always this whirr.
I'm a musician so it's easy for everybody to dismiss my problems, but I remember exactly the same things. I always knew if someone turned the TV on. I always heard the TV noise even when it was off. There's also some certain upper-mid frequencies which completely destroy my sanity - bad PA systems and wall reflections are particular banes of my existence.
I've always asked myself - how could I get this if I always had good hearing? Is this even anyone's fault? How could a child have tinnitus when it had no real chance to get it?
This entire post+comments has me almost in tears - my tinnitus gets unbearable e.g. when I'm stressed, panicking or overstimulated. It helps to know someone shares my pain, even if this treatment won't become available in my lifetime. I'm used to having stuff playing in the background anyway, it's just the times when I can't drown it out when it's the worst.
PS: BTW, something interesting happened to me recently: I recently visited a retro game museum while on vacation. Being obviously filled with old TVs, the noise was nigh-insufferable for me, but I pushed through because retro games is my thing. We spent ~1hr there and after we left, I felt like my own TV noise was somehow better for the day. Weird.

This article kinda feels like an elaborate excuse for not leaving your current employer, partner etc.
I mean seriously - why take shit when there's a 90% chance you're working on another elaborate CMS/CRUD-looking system? There's millions of them out there, you don't need to subject yourself to terrible experiences. Just go someplace else.

I... don't get the nostalgia.
Just for context, I'm 26, from a post-commie country, have been around computers since birth thanks to my dad. He wasn't technical, he just liked the new tech.
What stinks to me:
- I very much prefer 16:9/16:10 ratios (4:3 begone)
- Skeuomorphism was always very "uncanny valley" for me; I much prefer the Win95/OS 7/etc. designs than skeuomorphic ones, the current flat designs are better but way too saturated and I tend to lose my focus quickly
- I vividly remember how lost and frustrated I was when those old IDEs would launch with multitudes of windows by default - most of them were never used by anyone and everyone would just click through to the main window; being a small child I didn't know what to do or where to start and nobody around me could help - this memory kept me disinterested with programming until I literally went to a programming bootcamp after my finals.
- I really mean it! IMHO user friendliness is over the roof compared to those supposedly golden times.
