This makes sense, and sounds reasonable. I think people are getting hung up on 'qualities of tastes', believing (I assume) it is a value judgement. I read it as 'characteristics'.
As a result of proximity over time, the 'old rich' have developed unique cultural habits that are easily recognized as different to 'new rich'. Every group does this. Sure, there is good and bad to it, but it's a natural and expected outcome.

I love the GW-2310. Solar battery, Multi Band 6 for accurate to the second time PLUS the ability to show two time zones at the same time. With the second time zone set to UTC, it's super handy for sys admin work.

I loved the original Moto X! It was one of the first true smart phones my wife and I purchased, and almost the best. It's a great balance of features and practicality that I wish a premium (or near-premium) phone would return. If there are any comparable current models, please let me know.
Hardware - Not premium, but a great combination of rugged, good looking, and practical. It was a pleasure to hold (and still was last time I pulled it out), with the soft, grippy, rubber back and "just right" size. Removeable battery was a plus.
Software - Lots of nice little touches by Motorola. I wish Google integrated more of them when they bought Motorola, like the "double flick" to turn on the flashlight. One of the first with lock screen notifications in white.

Potentially related - "How major media outlets screwed up the vaccine ‘breakthrough’ story" [1]. Outlines media mis-interpretation of an unfinished, internal CDC presentation last week (roughly lines up with your July 30 story).
[1] https://www.cjr.org/the_media_today/cdc_date_media_coverage_...
I found that while reading daily news from AllSides[2], as recommended in a recent HN thread. I really like it so far.

I come from a Protestant background and have always been very interested in reports of possession as a "proof" of a spiritual realm. It can't prove everything (and even the fact of possession can't verifiably be established as far as I've read), but it can present a powerful argument for forces at work beyond our scientific knowledge.
Your links got me very interested in Marian apparitions. Are there any other good sources you would recommend?
