Google's main problem is that they only promote people for releasing new products. So all the engineers and product people are highly incentive to only work on new launches. Doesn't even matter what it is. So now they end up with all these garbage products laying around, none of which make them any money.

"The key point here is our programmers are Googlers, they’re not researchers. They’re typically, fairly young, fresh out of school, probably learned Java, maybe learned C or C++, probably learned Python. They’re not capable of understanding a brilliant language but we want to use them to build good software. So, the language that we give them has to be easy for them to understand and easy to adopt. – Rob Pike"
When did computer science become about hand holding? has it always been this way? Look at react. It was designed to force functional programming concepts in an OOP manner. Is the future of programming the implementation of tightly controlled interfaces with extreme type safety? I would argue thats where we are going. Things are becoming less expressive, not more.

The big companies, Google/Fb/etc hire that way but they also bring on niche experts. Leet code at those companies is for the code monkeys. They hire the people writing the ML/distributed systems/security code out of PhD programs and targeted hiring. Theres more to it, dont feel like typing it all up

My take on Quora and business like them:
They are hiring people based on leet code questions and school prestige and not based on real technical knowledge about systems. Their business people are top school MBA grads with no security domain expertise. They then proceed to build massive data collection programs using open source tooling that non of them fully understand. Their business model depends on that data and monetizing it in various ways. An so the complexity of their application goes through the roof with regards to user data. Their user facing web apps are the tip of the iceberg for a massive surveillance scheme.

The weird thing is most people will call you a misogynist for bringing this up. I would argue that in most major US cities there is already a large "harem" dynamic. It's mostly invisible to the general population, but quite obvious if you're friends with men in the top 1 to 2% of dating potential.
