do you know how many eBay clones were out there after Ricardo? how many people built twitter clones? building the website was never the hard part, making people get to it and use it was always the costly and hard part. nobody talks about embedded device programming when they say code was never the hard part.

homebrew has over 6,000 mac apps, this huge catalog is ever growing and there's no real way to keep up with what is actually new - except when you catch that line that shows new casks when you update brew in the terminal...

in case some new open source alternative drops, as we just saw with macshot essentially completely obliterating cleanshotx, you'd have no idea unless you catch it when someone posts it on hn or X.

well, now there is cask.news! it automatically stays up to date with the brew.sh json and sends out instant, daily, or weekly notifications about new apps. it's also great for just browsing all the casks and finding alternative apps.

I have been building on this since mid february and I finally like how it looks, its features, its auto generated reviews and ratings... and my friends told me to post it on hn so I resurrected my 16 year old account to do so :D

anyway, check it out and let me know what you guys think!

Nice! PHP finally getting async ... about time. Seems to work pretty good. Just benchmarked react with c50/10000 and get 700 req/sec on dynamic content on a shitty macbook air.

Will try to have it run with node.js's forever daemon next.

go to google, search for "piece sign" on image search. click on the ~20 image, black very slim lines white background next to piece sign with globe in background and alien head like looking piece sign. host is decinet.com or something. (im on my phone right now)

watch what happens next... thats the trojan, unzips automatically in safari.

i think the issue here is that a search is one service payed by another (adwords) and so on. for the cost of a search you have to devide all employees into their group and take out only the cost for searches. but than comes adwords and pay for it... tough the adwords code probably runs on the same servers that deliver searches (unified system)... i guess its really hard to cslculate but i would guess a search is only a fraction of a cent even before balancing it out win profits.

for xmas 1989 i got a C64. my uncle, big show off, got my cousins (two girls) an amiga. why? cause it cost a bit more. turns out amiga sucked and my C64 was pretty much awesome until i got a 286 a bit later. i even remember begging for 4MB more RAM so i can play rise of the triad ... anyway, thinking back it kinda feels like the C64 was a more open platform and everyone else was pretty much fucked.

minimize the server work; get some cheap nodes at rackspace cloud; use one node for sessions in memcache; use two nodes for mongodb (master/slave) read from both; try to minimize xss/html/js and gzip everything; cache as much as possible; maybe even queue inserts/updates with redis and a cron;

thats how i survived a mini fb app thatwent from zero to 44 million users in 7 days... rackspace cloud + memcache + redis insert&update queue + round robin. after a month i even killed the rackspace cloud interface and api with over 80 nodes and growing. had to get the memory limit on my account raised twice. peak were around 40k req/sec. after the second month we moved it to four bulky servers (16 core, raid5, 32gb ram) each cost around 12k dollar.

the whole secret is caching. everything, everywhere and as much as possible.
