Well written article, a great eye opener. I did not at all consider the bitmap fonts in context of aesthetics, which is such an oversight.

The fonts presented do look amazing, so absolutely will ck figure my terminal with one of them.

If my countrymen were killed by my government by the thousands, I'd not be super happy about defending that government.

If the enemy does the same kind of mindless killing to the civilians, then I would have different ideas.

The ads on default search partner is a fine compromise - reality is that projects need money, and if this helps them (and makes it less dependant on donations) then great! As long as the ad blocking happens elsewhere, it is fine.

I need to move back to waterfox again...

Really well explained - I use fedora kinoite, and have had hard time grasping how the immutability exactly works when compared to traditional setup.

I would add to this that homebrew is a nice tool for being able to install software that are not in flatpaks and if you do not want to add too many layers to the "os-tree".

The fact that home is shared between all the distro- and toolboxes is a bit annoying, because I would like to have stronger isolation from the host in some projects.

Also doing basic polyglot stuff is a bit messy, if you have toolboxes like "node" and "php". But if you have project based boxes, then you end up with billion copies of node.

But what a pleasure it is to just update the base image and have things work, or rollback if something fails. Hell, you can even rebase the base image to some other setup, and most likely have your system work.

Logic does not work, because alcohol in this case is a product being purchased - Kids can go to the store and buy other things.

So alcohol is more like a gambling website.

Really cool article! The solution to wrap the engine in a modern UI was a good one. I would have fallen to the trap of trying to port the whole thing, like all the other companies did.

Out of curiosity, how are the things tested? Or is checking core-engine doing things right only up to the developer and their tribal knowledge?

Good luck doing that without proper tests - I assume finance stuff is quite complicated and blanked porting with AI is insanely difficult, especially companies have failed in porting it by hand.

I'm "excited" for the era of different locally run LLMs get to have ads baked into them... People start selling ad-space to inject into their training/tuning data. Could be quite lucrative.
