yeah it’s unreal to me how many people who imagine themselves intelligent are just now discovering the equivalent to why we make wheels round.

they never think to ask “why does regulation x exist?”

if i’m not mistaken, in the past, people had limited time on “the mainframe”. so eventually they brought in what would be the equivalence of a local model… small computers that could do smaller tasks locally so they didn’t have to keep shelling out money to the mainframe gods and be handcuffed for usable time.

i could absolutely be mistaken that this is how it worked, it was before my time. but this is how people explain it worked for them.

i don’t think most work gives a shit about soa. smaller repeatable tasks can absolutely be run just fine on smaller local models. sure, we’ll upgrade models occasionally just like we went from suitcase sized laptops to whatever we use today.

this idea the hypedorks are pushing that soa is the only way is hilarious. hobbyists spend stupid money on classic cars, tools for woodworking, or whatever. spending money to do a hobby at home has never stopped wonks and their hobbies and businesses will do the same, spend to run models locally.

the sooner the hypeTrash does what hype always does, fades to irrelevance, the sooner we can get back to work.

for a lot of things a phone call can solve something in minutes and it’s cleared from your brain queue. while some emails end up with back and forth waiting for each others responses. that’s can be hours or days where it sits in your brain as yet another task to manage. wasteful for something that could have easily been tied up with a quick phone call.

which leads to the next piece of the puzzle, “we lost our quality writers and what we’re doing to get it back.”

there are people who enjoy writing about their passions such as music scenes, tech, arts, maker scenes, etc,.. how do we put them together with the people who are passionate about building something for local music scenes? and no, i don’t think the answer is, “oooh, let’s build another app.”

we need a government that is antagonistic towards corporations that are abusing us.

it’s wild how much influence they have and how little pushback the government ever gives them when they clearly abuse us from every direction.

look, i use llms for some work and for some hobby projects, but lets not pretend like the companies behind the llm bubble would ever fight fair. that would be naive to an extreme.

it takes a village, even with fantastic family life, and these companies are trying to tell us they’re exempt from the village yet they still want to be part of it. this is how we got here to the government (us, the people) taking it to the next step.

had these companies done the correct thing and acknowledged their responsibilities as members of the village, other solutions may have been found. they have no one but themselves (and their cultists incessant defense of them) to blame.

in the real world, good kids from good families in good areas fall too. it’s naive to an extreme to believe those alone are enough.

when i get off work i would absolutely (and do) shop at stores that are open.

i stopped 90% of online shopping a couple years ago so once i regained the lay of the land of where to get what, shopping at mom and pop stores is tough since they seem to close right when everyone gets off work.

larger chain stores seem to keep longer hours so they get more of my business than i’d like. even then i’m still happier than when i bought everything online, no question about it.

that said, i think i lean to it’s absolutely not ok to use eminent domain when the receivers of the benefits of the taken property are primarily one private industry and its owners.

i’d probably more often be ok with it if the benefits were mostly limited to being widely distributed to the people of that locality/region.

even then i go back and forth but i know for sure that plays a major part in how i see it.

my apologies for sounding more blunt than im meaning to, but, im not at all sure where i would fall on the idea of banning kids from having social media powered phones, but i know they’re not a “necessity”.

cause the problem then complain the problem exists. that’s been their intentional platform for years and years.

their old catalog though, incredible. i’d say like 80+ percent of the movies they released were fucking amazing. but that has fallen dramatically.

stop getting recs from algorithms and the entire world will open back up to you. just like top40 music and generic movies from back in the day, you’re getting the lowest common denominator recs.

i read a book about the music industry in the 80s (it’s been a couple years and i can’t remember the name now) but people called the top40 music from back then formulaic. they were convinced record labels had formulas to make their pop music stars. what do you think algorithms are? they’re feeding you trash.

again, stop getting your recommendations from algorithms and the world will open back up. get your recs from actual film or music geeks. go to your local record store, look at their wall of employee recs, or *gasp* talk to them and ask them.

you’re far far far more likely to see a camry or equivalent in an americans driveway than you are a super car.

you’re also more likely to see an enthusiast with a corvette or equivalent muscle car spending way more than it’s worth to tinker on that car in their garage than you are a super car.

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again.

the companies will have no one but themselves to blame when they’re regulated in and out.

if the companies don’t care at all about people and society to take actual material concrete steps to help, then we don’t need to care about them.

if they don’t care about me and mine, then i don’t care about them.

if a company cares about profits at any cost and has no regard for people, regulate them right out of business. i’m ok with that, they don’t care about me, have no obligation towards them.
