Most phones are not really off when shut down with the battery still inside. It is still responding to E911 services and other forms of tracking. I know this will try to be debunked that if the phone is off, there is no power or communication to the various radios and transmitters. But there are different power states depending on your phone and firmware. You're only really "off the grid" when the battery is removed or you have a faraday bag.

San Francisco seems, after only living here two years, to be a city kind of in a cold war with itself. I think the Broligarch Tech crowd is fighting with the progressives and in many ways the progressives are losing and do not realize it. I am not using these terms in their strict political meaning either. Much more extended to cultural aspects. I know it is also much more than just those two subcultures but they are the two most dominate.
Makes me wish I could've experienced the 1960s San Francisco or even the 90s SF. Tech and tech money just rots the soul of an area.

The powers that be do not want any code being run that hasn't been approved by a central authority. The same applies to running any code that is not authenticated to an actual person backed by some form of ID. Facial, drivers license, phone number, etc. to a central authority. The financial interests also want to force the advertising system on everyone and side loaded apps like new pipe and others threaten the monopoly.
It is about much more than just owning a device.

For criminal matters, the Govt will be so far into your phone and accounts, that unless you meet your lawyer in a faraday cage, you have no real attorney client privilege. Zoom attorney calls, cell phone calls, in person meetings with devices in the room... Using cloud connected systems to draft your legal defense... All of it is monitored and a form of parallel construction is done to use the information learned against you in ways that shape the case in the Govts favor before you even get to court. Just another use of the surveillance state.

Once wealthy and powerful people realize how this can be used to track them they will start cracking down. One of many examples for how underrated access to location data is for unauthorized people, it is a primary way that the military locates and kills targets in foreign countries. It is surprising all of the data is so freely available with data brokers. Or in some cases from the app companies themselves, if you're willing to make it worth the trouble for them.

All of the pirated Adobe installs require host file changes to redirect the license calls to local or nonexistent IPs.

China, Iran and Russia can vastly out produce missle interceptors. Drones, hypersonics, etc.
They can also manufacture launchers faster and cheaper than they can be countered. $30k drone vs interceptor at millions.
The U.S. and Israel will not accept the current regime staying in power.
Neither side wants to stop the war. Israel, Europe, the U.S., gulf states and others in missile range of Iran will not want the current regime to remain in power.
What happens next? Full invasion? Regime change Iraq style??
Here is a highly probable outcome before next year. Iran continues breaking the Iron Dome and firing on "allied" targets and infrastructure. The U.S.refuses or cant sustain a full invasion (because it is a death trap).
What happens next? It is obvious Israel will use tactical nukes on Tehran and other targets in Iran. It is going to be their only option.

Location data is arguably more important than financial or medical data. Atleast in a context where someone is after you. Thanks to bribery and data brokers, it doesnt have to be anyone in Govt or LE tracking you. Collect certain identifiers from a device or account and you can track almost anyone. Financial and medical data access is certainly bad, but your location data can be used to orchestrate a stalking campaign or a murder in a deniable way.
It is why after the U.S. kills or captures some foreign leader, they brag about figuring out their routes and daily habits. It is not a stretch to say that it could also be done, and probably has before, in the U.S.
Extreme penalities should be put in place for any location data access without a court order... And your location should never be allowed to be sold or shared with any non court approved third party. It really is that serious and if the public had the bandwidth to be concerned over another issue, maybe something would change.
Who knows, maybe all the public needs to take it seriously are some real life examples of location data being used illegally...
