The last one was inability to install dependencies on the docker container to enable plugins. The existing scripts and instructions don’t work (at least I couldn’t get them to work. Maybe a me problem).

So I gave up and moved on. What was supposed to be a helpful assistant became a nightmare.

I’m curious to see what comes next and how team dynamics and collaborative work will change once we are past that phase.

In my vision people will answer questions that other humans or LLMs have based on tons of documents and accumulated context that is shared and things will happen.

What is missing yet is how to share all that context. I don’t think any one current solution will be the winner because they are all too brittle and crumbly. It’s going to be something new and everyone from the company will have to use it to be effective.

There’s probably loads of opportunity here.

Breaking down into specific issues would also help you find help as smaller and more specific asks are easier to respond to than the opposite.

Companies will run multiple things in parallel. Some will work. Some won’t.

Even the stuff that works, might work for a little time instead of the long run.

A lot will go to waste. A lot gets duplicated. A lot will be redone in the future.

My suggestion is: go as slow as you can but not slower. Do as little as possible but not less.

In Brazil there used to be companies who did F5 on the browser all they for their clients and charged for it.

I worked in the furniture industry building software and we had a great interior designer who ended up working as a SME (business analyst) in our projects for 3 or 4 years.

I helped her prepare her resume and practice for interviews and she got a job as an actual BA making the salary of a mid level/senior BA and has been killing ever since.

On the positive side, it gives the hiring manager, if they care for that, a signal that you can build and ship stuff. You have tried building your own company and has more experience around the challenges that most devs do not have. I love to interview people who built stuff.

On the negative side, it also signals that you might not be as committed to the new company since you are pursuing something on the side, or has demonstrated that you want to pursue something other than the engagement you are applying for. I’m not saying that you can’t do both things at once, or that X is better than Z. Just stating how it might come across and can negatively affect your job search.

As long as you consider these two sides and come up with a “solution” to this, you are in the path to make an informed decision and can “defend” your position.
