Until someone fine tunes their LLM to match whatever the trend is and then the contrarians buck that trend for something else. An endless game of cat and mouse.

I personally don’t care if an output is from LLM or human, as long as someone has validated it and determined that it’s correct and useful.

On the other hand, I recently had a problem with my grocery order from Sam’s Club (the onions were smashed) and had to call to get it hopefully addressed. Talked to an LLM for 30 seconds after 0 wait and it was resolved. No accent I could barely understand, no potato microphone, no being put on hold for 5 minutes in the middle while they do whatever.

Just I’m an AI, I might fuck this up, what do you need, is this about your most recent order? Yes, my onions got smashed. Ok do you want a refund? Yes. The end.

They are significantly more convenient. No wired to tangle or snag on anything. Seamless handoff between all your devices. It’s genuinely a better user experience.

They don’t sound better, but if you care about sound quality over ux then you’re even luckier nowadays than any time prior because you can plug an amp/dac into your phone

Throwing all away by changing to a different programming language.

None of it is thrown away, it’s just now in a new language.

On top of that Bun is realistically a one man show with the vast majority of the code written by one dude. So the comment I replied to started from outrage and worked backwards to justify it without thinking too hard tbh.

The implication that you shouldn’t be able to change the programming language of your own project is also weird. Personally I welcome things like Typescript being rewritten in Go

And it’s an ad on the lock screen, not an ad interrupting your reading. I buy the ad free versions though.

People usually point at the scale when this discussion comes up, in my experience. These companies are doing something at a huge scale spending tons of money to do it so the potential harm is greater.

People can easily justify their own piracy because it’s small scale. Even when they organize, create a whole software and tooling ecosystem around pirating media to stick into jellyfin or plex. AI still did it bigger and worse and is bad, what I’m doing is not so bad because I wasn’t going to buy the movie anyway, etc.
