I beg you pardon. I'm not cheap, but I'm also not employed. You want cheap so you get it.

New comment by undebuggable in "Were Touch Bar's problems software rather than hardware?"

undebuggable — Sun, 16 Aug 2026 09:30:13 +0000

That era started with Window 8 when Microsoft wanted the same UI and UX on laptops and tablets. Amalgamation of physical keys with touch screens. Apple's Touch Bar was somehow a symptom or even culmination of it. It's over and let's forget it ever existed.

Automotive seems to have its Windows 8 moment right now.

Ancient Greeks were finding skulls of dwarf elephants during masonry works and quarrying in Sicily.

Most of weird European and Middle Eastern legends and fairy tales originate from drugs or encountering real artifacts or phenomenons which they couldn't explain. Look up how cyclops appeared in mythology.

New comment by undebuggable in "Why did we wait so long for the bicycle? (2019)"

> The physics is non-trivial and, based on the drawings, offsetting the center of the wheel from the axis of thw wheel being turned was not a thing.

There is whole physics around it and even legal regulations [1].

Looking at the state of stomatology and medicine back then early velocipedes and bicycles were indeed mad. I wouldn't get on any of it earlier that sometime 1910s, once the safety bicycle was somehow perfected.

Year 2014 and we can't even get a color photo from a comet.

It worked out. Philae lander with harpoons was comparably complex but mostly failed unfortunately.

New comment by undebuggable in "Lies we tell ourselves about email addresses"

undebuggable — Wed, 10 Jun 2026 09:11:16 +0000

I have the same with my email address. There seriously exist people out there who think that if they start to give away everywhere an email address, this email address will become theirs. Then there are many service providers and institutions who don't verify an email but simply start sending stuff to it.

Ah so that's why they're going it! In front of TV I always feel like the dumbest person around.

That's all true. As a kid I was watching with sister a children's show in TV. The actor on the screen asked a question followed by silence. My sister yelled the answer at the TV, then the actor said something like "you're right kid". I was flabbergasted.

New comment by undebuggable in "The road signs that teach travellers about France"

undebuggable — Mon, 30 Mar 2026 05:40:33 +0000

> In France who has the right of way? The car that is already in the roundabout or the car entering the roundabout?

Actually it's pretty consistent all across Europe. Almost everywhere, every entrance to the roundabout has the yield sign [1]. Without the yield sign, every incoming traffic is right hand traffic and those already on the roundabout have to give a way.

Now the trick is that yield signs at the entrance are so common that drivers assume they are always there.

> the portal used incrementing numeric user IDs

> every account was provisioned with a static default password

Hehehe. I failed countless job interviews for mistakes much less serious than that. Yet someone gets the job while making worse mistakes, and there are plenty of such systems on production handling real people's data.

New comment by undebuggable in "Why does aluminum foil have one shiny side and one with a matte finish?"

Shiny side is for wrapping the end of banana, the matte for the other end.

Now ask the question of all questions "how many car washes are in the entire country?".

New comment by undebuggable in "If you put Apple icons in reverse it looks like someone getting good at design"

undebuggable — Sun, 18 Jan 2026 02:06:44 +0000

There was more meeting time and salary budget involved in picking the yellow-red gradient inside a pen from the first icon on the left, that in the entire process of creating and releasing the icon first from the right.
