Just like a psychological diagnosis is often based on proximity to a cluster of symptoms rather than specific ones that must be met, you can't point to one particular line that makes it AI. It is the combination of all of the sentences that aligns with our perception of AI.

Am I missing something or does the article fail to explain the point of Arrow’s Theorem? Is it satisfied for the discrete case, provably impossible, or what?

I don’t think it is. What you describe is similar to any other industry disruption, and I don’t think those are unethical. I’d actually argue that preventing disruption is often (not always) unethical, because you artificially prolong an inefficient or inferior alternative.

Zsh has a better builtin solution.

    hash -d x=/path/to/x

Then you can cd to there with just

~x

And use it in commands like

    ls ~x/whatever/

With all due respect, I think you're wildly out of touch with how most people use "phones" these days. Actual calls probably represent about 5% of my phone use. The term "phone" is essentially a historical misnomer at this point.

Those things are bad because the people involved are not able to consent. The journalists and techies working for band camp entered into voluntary contracts that they can leave at any time. To equate the two is absurd.

Like growth needs to continue because just maintaining value is not acceptable for shareholders, maybe the problem is that the founders/sellers need a big payday because just having a steady income is not acceptable (to them).

Yes. That’s a problem to sort out between the employees and the company, it has nothing do to with users or customers. As a user I’m not going to pretend I know any of the relevant context to engage in activism on behalf of anyone.

I think this is just wrong. I don’t want “the same bitrate as ProRes”, I just want higher bitrate HEVC. For example YouTube has recently added a “high bitrate 1080p” option, which is still 1080p but less compressed and therefore better quality.

My main use case is family/holiday videos. Saving massive pro-res files would fill up the space quickly and I’m not sure how to process them into HEVC quickly and simply.

I don’t think the sensor is the limiting factor for me. I am happy with the photo quality on the 15 pro. It’s the video compression. Or maybe the speed at which the sensor can offload video data.
