Why would I use this instead of going directly to the provider?

It’s like you’re selling apples for $1 directly outside the grocery store. Why wouldn’t I just go inside and buy them from the same place you just got them?

In my experience, AI seems like it’s helping debug problems, but it’s very hard to tell when fictional information starts being added. I’ve wasted a lot of time trying AI suggested solutions that I only realized were pointless when I started asking questions like ”I think this distro is missing a package, could that be the problem?” It would agree and tell me a specific package to download. I’d then ask “could iptables be the problem?” It would agree and give me a specific configuration to change.

LLMs can be useful, but I haven’t found a way to use them where I’d be confident in using it to solve technical problems I didn’t already deeply understand.

The scolding about not using certified guides or having commercial filming permits seems so alien to the climbing culture I’m familiar with. Is it a Yosemite climber thing? Is it like punk rock where they have a rebellious front, but there are actually a bunch of strict rules that must be followed?

This is definitely a matter of perspective. How do non-tech young professionals feel about this, given the huge jumps in home prices over the last few years? Probably pretty happy.

How do people in the construction industry feel, sitting on unsold inventory? It could be really bad for some of them.

How do I feel? It’s really hard to be sympathetic to people living in million dollar houses. If they leave the country maybe I can get one of those jobs in Denton.

Your last question is really important. What did they accomplish with all that spend?

I suspect there’s some mass delusion with respect to actual accomplishments as a result of LLM use. Sure, things are moving faster, but does it matter?

This seems to protect underwater cables the same way security cameras protect convenience stores. As in, they don’t actually prevent damage, but may deter by exposing bad actors.

I definitely don’t want that.

I also sense lack of imagination. There’s no way Rivian will build native apps for everything I use CarPlay for. They might be able to create a passable maps and music app, but I can’t imagine it surpassing what already exists on most phones.
