Preserve and improve health

Figure out what you want to do in life and go after it. Not just career, but the other stuff (travel, companionship, hobbies leaving a legacy, etc)

You still got a couple grand slams left in ya but you have to be intentional about it

Just ship or push to clarify reqs until you ship. Don’t let anything else hold you back (oh let me ask my manager etc etc). Clarify the reqs, get sign off and ship. It’s that simple.

FAANG was only good for the name and the money. Now I would say neither. I think we are now in a post-FAANG world. Maybe at the highest levels sure you’ll clean up but not as FEE. Honestly there are a ton of private companies now (stripe, Databricks, the GenAI companies, etc where the name carries a lot of weight and you can clean up well if you have a few years).

I must say that making my own starter, and making pizza from this.. incredible. It has been a very fun and fulfilling journey. It is better than going out for me and I now have it dialed in to where I can crank out 12 pizza in an hour from my oven. We have friends over and it’s a great time. The dough I feel like is also well adapted and suited to my particular environment and the flour I bake with and there is something unique in that this culture you can only get from me and my house

It’s not what it used to be. I find people are more self-centered than ever. What to speak of friends even family will not spare a moment for you. Many couples do not have kids for this reason. Who wants to make that sacrifice. Covid accelerated this. People got burned out, then realized they needed to take care of themselves better since no one else will (especially after layoffs). I don’t think the pendulum has swung back yet. Obviously I’m generalizing here and this is biased by my own experiences.

I mean in theory couldn’t anyone close to the news source transmit it somehow via an anonymous communication channel to someone else so they can make the trade. Even if there is an investigation they have to find the proof to make a conviction right?

On further reflection I think the sweet spot for R for me Has always been prototyping and exploration. Where you don’t exactly know what the logic needs to be, or how the data needs to be cut to get at what you want. So that rapid type of exploration R is really really good at. Closer to math for me than software engineering. And if I had a job where I could just do that all day I’d be pretty happy at this point in my life. and you can’t use a pivot table Google sheets or excel to get at the cut you want or the logic is too complex to do in Google sheets. So for that sweet spot, which is still a broad niche, R is excellent and shines.

Move on, you’re not married. If You can’t align on how to vet the problem then you can’t align on the dozen other things you need alignment on. Cut your losses and move. It’s not failure it’s pivoting. Take the learning and move on, and make sure you vet your next cofounder throughly along what you learned from this experience. I will say, she wants to work on something that she has data she can sell. Selling, users, and traction will make the fundraise much easier. So try and see where she is coming from. But it sounds like at this point better to go your own way.
