The CDN is worse. S3+cloudfront is easy for serving assets. The google CDN version is so expensive with the load balancing.

The problem with the touchbar is that you cannot build muscle memory with it. You have to look down to do anything with it. That goes against the entire UX of a keyboard. How Apple hasn’t understood that basic fact yet is beyond me. This new MacBook is nothing special. A Ryzen 4000HS surface is more attractive now. The cheaper CPU Ryzen has 8 cores and is faster than the current 16” 6 core i7. Time to get rid of Intel and it’s over heating 14nm CPU’s.

Considering OP states he’s not proficient in the backend. Leave auth to google. It’s just a middleware in Node so not a huge issue.

Also. If you use the auth as a middleware on the routes you want authed, you’re can remove it later for passport or something else.

Use firebase auth as the authentication layer. Then once a user is authed in just use mongodb as per usual in node or Postgres in rails, django etc

You pass the token to the DB via HTTPS decrypt and off you go.

I’m definitely looking for premium support when something goes wrong. I think Apple no longer offers this service in real terms.

Ubuntu is ok. I’ve used it before. OSX is usually very good. Just Catalina is dreadful. I’ve picked a surface because it’s as close to the Mac as I can find.

I have had a hell of a time with Apple lately and quite honestly I don’t think they deserve the thousands of dollars I give them for the MacBook Pro 15”. I’ve had the power brick die on a one month old device. Catalina is one of the most buggy operating versions I’ve ever used.

For those on the surface laptop range what’s the development experience like on windows? How’s the power in the 16GB models and are you enjoying the laptop?

Apple could have easily replaced the screen on the 8 body with one of the XR with Face ID. It’s an admission that Face ID is another failure, along side the dreadful touchbar. None of the macs have Face ID and now a brand new phone without Face ID. Apple has iOS one day someone will replace it and Apple will be buggered.

The iPhone XR models should have been the new SE and the iPhone 8 body should have gone. Apple is a joke when it comes to these things.

As a user of Facebook. They shouldn’t be most upset about the privacy problems. A developer at Facebook should be ashamed of helping to build the absolute garbage that is the Facebook advertising suite. It’s a maze of bugs.
