This is Confidential Computing https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confidential_computing
with another name. Intel, AMD and Nvidia have been working for years on this. OpenAI released a blog some time ago where they mentioned this as the "next step". Exciting that Apple went ahead and deployed first, it will motivate the rest as well.

He was a marketing person I believe when Bill was in MSFT. To become the CEO of MSFT is a huge political and competence firewall already. Then to do the most spectacular transformation of a mega-corp is next-level. MSFT is now the leading player in AI, while before it was still fucking around with office and Windows licenses. People who are young (not saying you are), and don't remember what MSFT was before Satya, don't really get that MSFT would be like Oracle and IBM if not for Satya.

There would be no way to find out if that would be true however. The person in the vat might say they are the same person but you don't know if they really are. Also what happens if you create a copy? Is that two people or is there some kind of shared consciousness? If it is, how do they communicate?

I think value-based care is the only real incentive on this. Otherwise, there is simply no reason for anyone to care enough. Even the insurers, they found a way to make money by making sure their premiums factor in these things. In the expense of the patient. As long as the drug doesn't kill people, who cares if it works if I make money off it as a pharma? Unfortunately, value-based care can only be pushed top-down. Patients are not in a position of power against pharma companies on this matter.

It became faster and worse. My definite proof is its ability to generate greek content. The early API was generating good or at least passable content. It was really on the edge of "this is good". Now its completely garbage, it makes up words and even fails at basic translation, doing it literally. I think its less the RHFL and more the effort to scale it and make it faster.

I spent a time reading camus and existentialism in general which heavily impacted my view as well. I really liked the paradigm of sisyphus because it very clearly illustrated the concept of the absurd.
I like to think that it doesn't really matter. Do i move rocks, do I write software, or fall in love in the end we will die.
Maybe our existence amounts to nothing since the outcome is the same, but then, everything matters as much as we care for it to matter. The rebellion against the absurd is to live a full life as we enjoy it. For me it may be helping others, or smelling trees and tending to my children, for someone else it may be organizing a world dictatorship, or rebeling against one. There is no inherent better way to live because the result is the same. As Tolkien also said after living through the horrors of war "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us"
For me this kind of life stance also helped me get off the hamster wheel of always chasing more and aspiring to things that society/capitalism tells us are important and virtuous, but instead focusing on what makes me happy , releasing this feeling of longing for the greener grass

I want to offer a counterpoint to the current consensus in the comments from (my) real-world interactions. In many countries outside of US, Twitter is occupied by a minority audience which is usually in its own bubble. Instagram is much more popular especially in Millenials who are now in the age group where they start to be more politically active and less motivated by the "pure entertainement" side of the social media.
Facebook, is dead for them in terms of engagement because its the "old people" place and discoverability is quite bad outside of groups. I know many people who use Instagram for social/policy commentary in their stories, and its very inefficient because its one-way. Pictures do not allow for proper discussion or easy discoverability of comments.
Even tiktok has better interaction via duets and pushing up new content all the time but conversation is limited.
I believe that instagram is mainstream enough to entice this group into a forum-like experience and drive insane engagement. Currently, if you are not traveling or doing some kind of beauty influencing, instagram is dead and its successor (tiktok) is limited to short videos. There is a legit market for more long-form/term discussion place in that (very important) age group outside of the US especially.
I am bullish on the offer, especially since Twitter seems to be prioritising US.
