Indeed, Monster works for contract roles better than other because it is less expensive than LinkedIn for recruiters and has active candidates. Start contracting and convert to Fte is what I’d recommend

This makes no sense. VW is a public company, employing regular people, making good cars in Germany and elsewhere. No one brings up the past for Japanese, so not sure what the logic for punishing VW is?

It won't shock me if Elon is going alt-right to get the only remaining segment of the US population that is currently global warming deniers and ICE car pushers to start supporting Tesla/electric cars. If he gets conservatives and governments in Texas, Florida and other Red states to move to EVs, he'll really have done more for the environment than any other human alive.

Wow. I think the world will be so much better with less cruelty to animals if this works. But I’m not so psyched about eating lab grown meat myself because of the unknowns

Seems like SPACs have been a race between getting ‘discovered’ as worthless and unloading owner and VC equity to the public at high valuations.

Unfortunately, I think the sentence is appropriate and hope it serves as a lesson. We have too many startup founders today that think lying, cheating and defrauding investors, customers, employees are table stakes or worse "hacking it" or faking it till you make it- is OK and justified. Look at how casual SBF seems even after being caught as a fraud. There's no remorse. Its disgusting to many Americans who work hard, follow the rules and make low wages doing an honest job.

It is strange how the main people running th sr companies are completely unknown and unrecognized. I don’t know if it is coincidental or by design. For most other big tech companies there is usually a lot of guessing by the media of who’s next to lead.

Unrelated- but I think Elon is going the way of Trump and Kanye to being cancelled or his businesses being doomed. All the goodwill he had as the underdog at Tesla, he's throwing away with his "I'm better than you, I'm here to save you, Nothing I say will hurt me cos I'm invincible and people love me" complex.

This is pretty common in most large companies. Remember the mini-msft blog? This doesn't happen as much on product teams but in all the support functions which don't hire world class people like they do on software engg.

Basically as companies revenues grow, every cost center gets to put in a request to grow headcount. If you don't your colleagues will and you'll be looked down upon. then you take on shiny new non-essential projects and find ways to justify it. Launch it get promoted and leave. The next person comes in- decides it is crap- shuts it down and starts their own new project to reinvent the same thing . Org politics.

I got an Oculus 2 for my kids. Although cool for 10 min, I can't see myself liking it- not now- nor ever. I know this is what every previous major tech was tagged as- but seriously- I just can't imagine how this is the way of the future. Maybe I'll read this comment 20 years later and wonder how I was so naïve.

Freezes are never absolute or company wide. It just means that it will be harder to get headcount. The recruiters keep filling the funnel at a lower pace.

If physical work is too hard, you can try being an Amazon contract recruiter- mundane work, a bit easier on the body and higher pay.
