This bothers me big time. One my forums got hit by 200k to 280k requests over a 15 minute interval multiple days. I ended up just blocking the whole range /16

Agreed more readable, instead of searching/scanning. That's an issue I have with larger projects, more files and classes to jump to for not any gain really.

It is probably a mixture of the following: is it anticompetitive, ongoing support, security. I think it is mainly anticompetitive issue.
Windows has been called many times for bundling software since it hurts other software companies. Which leads to government regulation.
It is sad since I think probably the windows solution could be better in some cases with the native support.

I do for several large projects.
But, I do not run IIS. Use Apache instead.
I have webservers running windows server, and databases servers on centos.
Main reasons familiarity started as a windows application developer, the gui in my case window explorer feels easier for the tasks that I need do.
I have setup webservers on linux as well, Just I work faster in windows can fix things easier then having to google with linux when things go wrong. I prefer the windows file permissions
