I predict a massive uptick in linux switchover as soon as installation and activation of some newer ms-office versions (2019, 2021 or 2024) become possible. I think 2019 was the first that shipped with a full fledged power query.
In my experience, as of now the one that works best and seamlessly is the 20 year old office 2007.

I think his video makes it clear how hard it is to make something made-in-america--even this product isn't. On the product front alone, people would be making a decision to spend ~5-10x something made-in-notamerica. gains from trade is a fundamental idea that has proven to be mostly beneficial to the masses. suddenly claiming self-reliance yields freedom seems very politically aligned.

I can't put my finger on it. Something about the recent announcement video of de-extinction of dire wolves immediately filled me with skepticism. I don't know if it was the very marketing-y video or the animations or what? But I didn't know enough to question it. This video by Hank Green does a nice summary as can be gleaned from the title. Several of Colossal's claims are questioned and his informed position explained.

You should never double click to open a csv file in excel. You should ALWAYS import the file into excel. Set your types during import. Many of the complaints about excel's csv handling in this thread are user errors.

There are other apps, though. The id system of the local apps are fairly lax, so the driver will just create another account. Besides, they don't always cancel rides. Sometimes they accept "manufactured" rides. E.g. once you've hailed a ride on the street normally, they might tell you to initiate a search through [ride-sharing-app] and then accept it (to maybe complete some quota that lowers their commission payable).

I checked to. On my computer, with a fresh install, i have to kill Utility: Bat Ledger Service from the brave task manager every time the browser is started. Thankfully it stays closed.
The ads and crypto stuff are also not exactly as simple to opt out as "literally disable it in the welcome screen when you first install" as one commenter enthusiastically mentioned.

IIRC, the background processes for these ad and crypto services still run in the background even when you disable them. I haven't checked the browser in a long while. But it's easily verifiable by opening the brave task manager.
Quick Google result: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/5429

Duckduckgo has pretty much become one of the mainstream search engines. Normal, everyday users who find google's surveillance offputting because of its comprehensive nature probably think they are comparatively more private with something like duckduckgo. They will probably not react as strongly as power users or more privacy oriented folk. So, i doubt the points of view on hacker news is very damaging to duckduckgo.
