Proofed by the innumerable random unnecessary UI changes by YouTube, Discord, Spotify, etc. It's like they want to be able to tell share holders "we released 100k updates to our users this quarter" and the share holders don't really care what those changes were. Borderline shareholder fraud imo.

LLMs work well for boring stuff that other people have already done a hundred times. Where the LLMs fail is solving difficult problems that aren't explored as well. The people seeing the 10x speed up are likely just doing CRUD apps or other software that have already been well documented by Stack Overflow or cloned a million times on Github. In my own use, it completely breaks down when for solving actually difficult things.

I think this is true in that people will do what they need to in order to get ahead. If you play a game by the rules against someone who is cheating, then you will lose. The only way to stay competitive and have a chance to win is to also cheat. When people see others who act in an anti-social way (PE destroying companies, enshittification of software, etc.) go unpunished and reap massive rewards...then they too have to be anti-social just to stay on the same level or have a chance of succeeding. It's the descent into a low-trust society and a general race to the bottom.

The hope for me was that humans have learned from history, from all the past mistakes of failed civilizations and collapse of authoritarian regimes to build a modern world that is equitable. But there will always be narcissistic psychopaths who are able to say the right words and sweet talk those they need to in order to gain power and repeat history.

This process is already well underway. The current massive over investment into the AI hype bubble is the final death throes of a failed economy trying to keep its head above water.

This is the result of all the "culture wars" we've had in recent years. At the beginning of it, companies hedged and pulled back if there were any sort of mass PR event due to them taking a stance in the Culture War Topic of the Day. As time went on and there was Culture War after Culture War after Culture War, either consumers got tired of tracking who was "bad" or companies realized they could get away with anything and it didn't seemingly affect their bottom line.

It's either that or companies don't really have to worry because there is essentially zero competition in the current economy with all the pro-monopoly administrations we've had for the past 16+ years.
