I mean what you are saying is right. But these people were perfectly fine with ignoring or sometimes outright endorsing political violence until one of their own was the target. That does not seem extremely hypocritical?

Getting > 20% of the total revenue in a restaurant seems like a pretty good deal though. I doubt most servers would prefer getting the 2-3x Federal minimum wage and no tips.

And in some states like CA, WA, NYC it’s a (relatively) very well paid job.

That would’ve been unimaginable 15-30 years ago. Theft and violent crime rates were sky high. Having your home broken into or even getting mugged in broad daylight wasn’t that special (these days you have a high chance of getting a story in a national newspaper at least if you get mugged).

Of course it’s far from perfect and there are other issues that need to be solved. However under the right circumstances significant change is possible even during relatively short timeframes.

They are still measuring that in a defined standardized way. It might be very different from real world conditions but that doesn’t mean that they are explicitly lying.
