A sizable portion of the blue collar economy collapses too if the white collar portion stops having money to spend or suddenly has an influx of time to do some of the stuff the blue collar workers were doing for them like lawns, home repair, painting etc.
Its all tied together. The current system cannot function if unemployment goes double digits.

I'm dealing with a relatively minor but annoying back and neck issue and the number of people that have come out of the woodwork to tell me to go to a chiropractor is kind of shocking.
I need actual physical therapy from someone with a credible degree in sports medicine. It's a relatively common muscular issue that I'm pretty confident can be handled with stretching and strengthening routines but nobody has suggested doing that so far.

Ive been doing this for enough time. Code is rarely the hard part. Code rarely matters at all in my career experience.
Shipping a working service or product matters and theres a lot of ways you can get there. The upside of good code is usually in maintenance and extensibility but theres a limit to how much those matter in the grand scheme.
