Compared to illegal mass surveillance programs that remain running to this day, and a witty intelligence head who remains free after lying under oath, this is a shinning success that should be celebrated.
Hopefully other nations follow their lead one day.

I don't know much about macOS development, but I am a linux developer by trade. Can you elaborate further on how linux doesn't do long-term healthy platform maintenance?
I also don't understand how long-term maintenance can be a factor when games don't run correctly on launch day. I would appreciate an explanation for this as well.

The same with Samsung printers division which is actually owned by HP. I think punishing a company for selling their trademark so that other companies can mislead their customers is a good thing.
In my eyes, GE is just as guilty as Haier & KKR.

The solution to leaking private information has been known for a very long time: Don't collect beyond the bare minimum required to render a service.
Microsoft should not have collected anything beyond an email and a password. Payment information should only be held temporarily.
Personal information is a toxic asset. It baffles me why companies willingly hoard it.

No demand for work is being made here. I'm simply saying a project that isn't a toy project will be criticized if it doesn't behave according to community standards.
I'd consider it to be social norms. It certainly isn't entitlement.

I don't know how to word this so I'll say it bluntly (and probably bear the blunt of this community as a consequence): If you're a developer of a project that is used in a security-sensitive context, you either be receptive to security concerns or you clearly label your project as a toy project.
No one expects you to write perfect code, but we do expect you to fix flaws when you learn about them.
Of course, you could do neither, but don't be surprised when people call you out on it.

> you've also just communicated murderous intent.
No I have not. It's your bias that colored it that way. Reread my comment. I never said I want kill a thief for stealing. I simply stated that I will take back what is mine. If, and only if, the thief tries to kill me will I respond in kind.
Again, it has nothing to do with grandeur and everything to d with doing what is right. I will take back what is mine, and threatening my life wont stop me.

> I’m just assuming the above is not in good faith
Not GP, but your assumption is wrong.
It's not about the laptop. It's about standing up for yourself and doing your part towards society. You obviously don't agree with this stance and that's fine, but it's not your place to dictate what values are worth standing up for and what aren't.
I, like GP, fully intend to go after a thief. If he goes after my life, then I go after his. Either he gives up the laptop, or one of us gets killed.
It's as simple as that.

> If you need Photoshop, you'll stay on platforms where it's supported.
Sure, but your customers will resent you for it and search for alternatives. Vendor lock-in is not a good long term strategy. Competition will eventually catch up.
> If you don't, you'll probably not pay for it anyway.
This is speculation on your part.

This is what drove me to use Debian. I used to spend quite a but of time hunting down telemetry and other canonical-serving crap, but I eventually got tired of it.
With this crap and others (e.g. aggressive snapping), Canonical is eroding trust in its most important market. Inertia will only take them so far.

If I suspect that there is any chance my family's private information is going to get leaked, then I will not touch it. Appliances should never have internet access. Software updates, if required, should be delivered one-way through open trusted auditable software (something like ofw).
Big tech have already tricked me into supporting them with their "open platform" bait-and-switch before (android), that trick wont work on me twice.
