A psychiatrist told me that people with ADHD perform better under extreme pressure and chaos. No idea if that's true. Personally I don't even think of ADHD as a deficiency. It's just a trait that is not compatible with modern society and workplace.

Weird that your comment got "downvoted". It's perfectly reasonable and pretty informative with the exception of converting old JPEGs to new format automatically. Seems like a huge waste of resources to shed a few KBs off an already ultra compressed file. I wonder if mirrorless cameras will get native support for this format.

If you find some make sure its fermented and contains only cabbage, salt and optionally carrot. No vinegar, no citric acid, no preservatives or anything weird like that.

This new technology more powerful than the internet can't answer the simplest questions straight. If this is the future then I don't want it. LLMs are pretty great at generating code and recognizing patterns and that's about it.

When building your own you can get:

- 2x the GPU for about the same price.

- Same power usage while in sleep.

- HDMI CEC with a dongle.

- Wake up from sleep with controller if using official Steam Controller.

- Cool and quiet operation. You can actually beat Steam Machine at noise levels under load.

- Upgradability.

- Standard parts that are easy to service and replace.

What you can't get with a custom PC is:

- Comparable size.

- Comparable support (software/firmware fixes and good warranty/service).

- Cool led strip unless you're into electronics and can make your own from scratch.

I build and/or service all of my PCs, servers and laptops. I never had a single component die on me. I still have my first 128GB Samsung SSD serving as a boot drive in my NAS. Sometimes I buy used parts. Sometimes I sell used parts. I never had any problems with DOA parts no matter if new or used. I'm always careful with static electricity (no sweaters, carpets, cats etc near components). Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe some people are not careful enough with sensitive electronics.

Steam Machine can't be upgraded.

Once SM becomes too slow for gaming it will become mostly useless as it lacks necessary ports to be repurposed into a reasonable home server. I always reuse my old PC parts as home server upgrades.

Steam Machine uses a proprietary fan that will be annoying or even impossible to replace 5 years from now.

I built a new gaming PC with DDR4 two months ago and it's pretty great. For servers RAM speed usually matters even less.

I never had any problems with Thread that couldn’t be fixed by pulling batteries from a crashed Ikea device and I have very little interest in how the protocol works.

Automatic updates in Home Assistant are disabled by default for a reason. It’s not an ultra polished, safe corporate environment for non technical wives and children.

Which sensor? Battery powered temp/humidity sensor or USB-C powered air quality monitor? I’m asking because the battery powered one is known to be bad. They disconnect and refuse to connect again until their batteries are pulled for ~10 seconds. It’s a device problem, not Thread problem.

I’m using ZBT-2 with HAOS on RPi 4 4GB. It’s rock solid in a crowded apartment complex. Devices are 90% IKEA and 10% Aqara. Definitely try that antenna and don’t connect additional border routers. Let HA own everything.

Security system that can be jammed is a terrible idea. Cameras should be wired. Ideally on separate network and with battery backup.

My entire “smart” home setup is built with Matter over Thread. It’s fully local. No internet access required. With Home Assistant onboarding can be done without a smartphone now. Devices without official certification work but probably only in Home Assistant.
