I've been wondering how CodePen is surviving the AI onslaught - the core thing CodePen has always represented to me is to showcase the amazing hand craftsmanship of CSS HTML JS developers. Obviously that has changed, so I wonder what it means for CodePen - presumably they need to change their business model in some way.

I know it's being negative but its hard to avoid pointing out that fixing a housing crisis is not a startup opportunity.

It's a social and government and commercial problem, which for many reasons is not actually a problem to be solved because so many people WANT things exactly as they are.

Startups are about creating something that people want - and whilst people want a house, that's not what this startup idea is. I'm surprised it got funding.

The pelican benchmark is exactly what's wrong with hiring in technology.

It's got nothing to do with what most people actually do when they're working - just like most job interviews which ask you to draw a pelican as their way of assessing you.

I would visit lobste.rs more if it filtered out stories that are on Hacker News.

I'm not interested in a rehash of Hacker News but I am interested in more tech news.

Anyhow on topic: I find it puzzling the whole "use sqlite in production!" thing.

- you're stuck on a single machine now.

- you don't have remote database access.

- you have to live with the inflexibility of sqlite's schema change capability.

- all writes go through a single writer.

- fewer data types

- fewer backup/security/high availability options

- foreign keys and strict disabled by default.

- you're single core in a multi core world.

It's not a terrible decision but when you can choose Postgres, why would you go with sqlite?

I once got a credit card statement that said estimated time to repay ....... more than 100,000 years. It was discouraging but I did pay it off. And sooner than estimated.

Device manufacturers go to a great deal of effort to ensure their devices cannot be identified this way. I'm certain SOME don't have such protection but I would think many do.

Can you say exactly what you can detect with this?
