> Bank Simple doesn't appear to bring a whole lot new to the table.
BankSimple, unlike Mint/Wesabe, is an actual bank* (*ok not techincally for regulatory reasons, but you will store money with them). You will keep/deposit your money there, and be able to spend it via BankSimple-branded debit cards. Its a whole additional level of integration over Mint/Wesabe, which are just web frontends to existing bank accounts

Yes.
1) Its some extra work for what is likely a tiny portion of their target user demographic (note: this isn't the demographic that would use a normal signup if it was an option as supposed to facebook connect, just the ones that won't use it at all if it isn't)
2) They get nice benefits of forcing people to use facebook auth, eg friend lists within the app. Turntable knows all of my friends who use the service, and can show me rooms that they are using. If there was an alternate non-facebook signon that I had used instead, this wouldn't work out
3) The signup is probably more frictionless for users, many of whom are fickle and might not sign up if it seems like a lot of work. I say probably because I don't have experience with tracking conversion rates or anything here-this is just a guess

This is what, the 3rd? 4th? power outage in that facility in the last year? I realize that it's not directly Linode's fault, since this is Hurricane Electric's facility that they lease from, but its still pretty frustrating. I have a personal VPS there which I use to do an hourly data grab, so I missed a few this morning. This is just a personal pet project so no huge deal, but if I was running some actual production-level stuff there I would be very wary of using that facility.

While you are here....Why only a single boot drive? It seems like an obvious failure point, and at only $40 per drive I would think soft raid 1 would be no-brainer for reliability.
Regardless though, super impressed by the work into rolling your own hardware, hope you guys continue to do well.

Sounded like standard bland pr-speak to me. They didn't specifically address any of his points and it comes off as extremely impersonal. I hope for RIM's sake they are sending around a much more detailed memo internally. For instance, the second sentence:
"It is obviously difficult to address anonymous commentary and it is particularly difficult to believe that a 'high level employee' in good standing with the company would choose to anonymously publish a letter on the web rather than engage their fellow executives in a constructive manner"
seems to just strengthen the original author's point 8

The unmentioned big issue with truecrypt is that encryption messes up dropbox's ability to do just do diffs, so syncing is noticeably slower. I'm fine with that though, because the (important) data I keep there is only updated 1 or 2 times/year.
