This changed. AI now requires significant capital investment and operating expense per customer, and also there is non zero chance that it replaces programmers completely. Aka expect companies will have less appetite to reward good programmers.

So I don’t think the prospects of working hard in software engineering look very good.

Deep NNs and LLMs should not work based on our theoretical understanding. The fact that they do should give us a pause instead of us flatly denying their unexpected performance.

These are the W2 workhorses who receive also no explicit current benefits from the gov (bar national security). They already pay taxes to the tune of 30-40% for zero benefits.

It will be hard to tell these folks that they need to pay 60–80% taxes on their W2.
