The goal is in the first paragraph: "aim was to let consumer gear that can't bitstream TrueHD Atmos render real object-based Atmos with height."
Summary is also clear: ffmpeg doesnt have channel coupling and proprietary cryptographic blocks it.
I was once wondering what would be the problem of doing such a project. Now it's clear to me what problems I would run into and I don't have to burn my tokens.
What answers are actually unclear for you?

I think you could argue Anthropic could be worth $1T. With AI becoming an essential work utility, every global knowledge worker would want a claude subscription. There are 650M to 1B of such office workers. 300M workers × $50/month × 12 = $180B/year. The genie is not going back into the bottle, I have seen what claude code can do when properly connected to tools.
But Micheals arguments are valid. There could be competition, or even local models, thus indeed becoming 'commoditized'.

It rather looks like chatgpt/antrophic enterprise tokens and API calls are too expensive. Competition is quite strong on openrouter.
However, the real problem is running wild with token burning. With parallel agents calling subagents you can burn lots of tokens per minute. Especially with thousands of engineers.

A friend of mine works at big corporate. He is in meetings all the time and barely codes. For him a 20$ AI subscription is more than enough.
I'm personally at a fintech startup and have a 100$ subscription. Our org is much leaner and its much faster to ship stuff. What used to be entire departments or teams can now be done by two or three people. Three people to ensure we share context and have a decent tram factor.

It says inspired by Pi, but I don't see any extension/plugin possibilities. The best feature of Pi is that an extension can hook anywhere and completely change the behavior. It also allows two extensions to stack on the same hook where there are no conflicts.
I believe Pi extensibility is the most important feature, exactly as how it was important for WordPress. WordPress won because anyone could install it and add the plugins they needed. WordPress also has the same hook system where multiple plugins can build on the same hook.
Companies will want to completely customize their agent harness so it optimally works for their situation.
