I’ve been following you on X since your account was randomly shown to me. Your story is really cool, but also is your product. I’m working on my own LLM context problem as a side project (in a completely different space), but this could really fill voids I’m finding when doing it myself.
I’m going to try this today. Best of luck with this!
Are you still building this yourself (and Claude)?

I lived in Raleigh and then Charlotte about a decade ago and can’t picture living in those places without a car. That said, I may be out of date on what it’s like there now.
Would you mind sharing what city you live in? If not, no worries, I understand wanting to keep anonymity.
I completely get what you’re saying about friction though. In my friend circles the only parents raising kids in cities are Philly and London, the latter of which is so big at some point you’re basically in a different town anyway.
Thanks, I appreciate your responses here. It’s been a weird realization knowing I hate where I live but not having an exact answer to where we should live that also is best for the kids.

I appreciate the suggestions, thank you.
I actually grew up in Ohio and know the cities there well. They’re just too small and public transit leaves a lot to be desired.
To me, there’s just something different about the cities that got big before cars that the southern cities, Ohio cities, etc can’t capture. It’s hard to explain if you’re not that type of person.
I think we will consider Chicago though (if I can sell my wife on the weather)

Has anyone raised kids in a big, walkable city in the US? London? Elsewhere?
My wife and I lived in downtown Philadelphia for >10 years, but moved to the suburbs after having kids. We have two young kids under 3. However, we’re finding — especially me — that we hate living in the suburbs. I miss the city, the energy, the walkability, and the public transport. I wish I could never drive a car again. To me it’s the best way to live, and I only find myself drawn to it more as I get older.
My wife stays home with the kids but is open to working again soon. We don’t want to move back to Philly, so we’re looking at other options. Has anyone either moved back to a big city with kids or just raised their kids in one recently? How did you manage costs?
…And, before someone suggests it, no, a walkable suburb is most likely not the same thing :)
Is NYC feasible if one parent is making FAANG salary? What other cities should we consider?
We’ve also spent a lot of time in London and are considering there as we prefer many parts of the lifestyle in the UK. I have an option to work there keeping my US SWE salary plus visa sponsorship. The real risk there is losing my job and then being at the whim of London level SWE salaries as we aren’t UK citizens.

I currently work at a company who is primarily writing in Scala. I really like Scala but assume my next role won’t be in that. Are my two best options Rust and Java if I want to keep some of the typing, functional style, and pattern matching while also moving to a more popular language?

Without more context, it kind of just feels like signaling that the founders can tout to peers and investors. So the the benefit is accreted in a prestige and respect way, now actual development.
Not saying I agree with the practice or the value of the signaling, just kind of speculating here.

Has any non-lawyer here had success if either sending a large corporation a demand letter or actually taking them to small claims court? Do I need a lawyer for this? This is in the United States.
For background, I’ve been in refund and call center hell with West Elm for 5 months now. They’re holding on to almost $2,000 and I can’t seem to get the refund to which they’ve already agreed. They tried to refund me once and when that failed they automatically put the balance on a gift card. I did not ever consent to this and have already to spoken to them, making it clear I want an actual refund. However, it apparently takes a 2nd level manager (manager of a manager) to cancel a gift card. Despite hours on the phone and promises every time, nothing ever changes.
Is it possible using some combination of Google, GPT, and persistence to craft a compelling demand letter or even represent myself in small claims court? Could I demand damages for the time invested in this?
Curious if anyone else here has done this that isn’t a lawyer? I’m currently a SWE and am curious of others experience.

I find the “it’s not fair to service workers” incredibly unconvincing. There’s lots of things that tech workers get that service workers don’t. Better pay, better flexibility with vacations, control over schedules, probably better insurance, the ability to sit all day, etc. The fact that WFH is the line for Musk is because he doesn’t like it. The same for other CEOs. But they know that isn’t an argument anyone will listen to.
