There's plenty of value from LLMs, if you treat them as an advanced search engine and auto complete machine like they are. I've used them quite heavily to research things...but these are done best in the hands of skeptical people.

The problem as usual is the mass of rich people trying to profit off of them, not the technology itself.

Working on a music sheet app that takes photos and turns it into a local doc you can play midi on, plenty exist but they all want subscriptions to use them. Trying to see if I can do it with pure local phone processing. Still in PoC Phase. The app world is tiring with the lockouts for yearly subscriptions fees of $50+. Apple promotes them too since they get a cut.

This was my biggest shock when I decided to publish an app...there's no SLA they just do it whenever they feel apparently. Excitedly publish a very simple app to have it sit in queue for like 6 days was surprising.

I'm baffled why Germany would allow this, you'd think they and the rest of Europe would understand the importance of energy independence at this point.

It seems like checks and balances are collapsing so the corruption gets worse, just selling out nature, our health more and more for personal gain until something breaks.

I can't really speak to laptops but I ditched windows last year for Linux and it's pretty damn good for gaming I have no reason to go back to windows at this point every major game I want to play works flawlessly.

The only issue I've had is the new rust desktop from pop os, but I just pop back into gnome and everything is golden. I hope they get their issues solved soon but it was just released 6 months ago or so. I can understand there's some bugs to work out.

Yup somehow I typo so many things or it auto corrects things I dont want it to allll the time I hate typing on my iPhone it sucks. I've personally been keeping an eye on e-ink phones. I'd really like to move off of having the ability to use websites and apps except for basic stuff like texting.

I mean if we look at all recent wars, Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam and now Iran we completely failed in our objectives. We spend billions, kill a lot of people and get a lot of our own people killed and didn't manage to instill democracy anywhere. How is that not losing the wars? It's complete failure to do what we set out to do 3 times now in recent history.

If you start a war in someone else's country and they push you out...they won the war which means the US lost it. Your definition that the country has to be taken over to lose is a very different situation. If you can't accept we started a war, lost thousands of US lives and left without achieving any objective we set out as a loss you might need to reflect on the propaganda you've been fed and how it's affected you.

Even if we threw everything at it and turned it into a war economy making everything to focus on this task, we'd lose most of our influence in the rest of the world at that time and then we'd end up in a Russia situation once we control the land where we are in a non stop war with people dying the entire time we are there. There's no situation where it makes sense for us to do this or to have attacked Iran in the first place.

Yeah it's stupid, though with this administration stupid seems to be the flavor they prefer.

I dont think they have a hard time resisting they did it a while ago, my company mandated everyone delete anything Chinese or Chinese derived back in April I think for no reason than "unsafe"

Yeah I have 24 GB Ram on my M4 and am disappointed in the capabilities. You really need a ton of RAM. I can run some basic 8B models fine but they dont do well at all in basic coding stuff I've thrown at them.

Why is this a gap that needs to close? Can you elaborate more than feelings? Right behind these big models are local inference with AMD/Apple having a great hardware start and a lot of local sized models making great progress.
