The skyline was inspired by north east England, Middlesbrough Teesside. ICI was one of the largest chemical sites in the world. Ridley Scott had studied at Teesside Polytechnic and took inspiration from the Imperial Chemical Industries that over looked Middlesbrough. One side of the skyline in the area you see towers and smoke billows and roaring flames, the other picturesque north Yorkshire moors and Odins Mount. Quite a contrast.

Reading through these comments, I can't tell any more whats bots posting on behalf of the AI providers trying to dissuade or whether people just have had negative experiences with local ai models.
IMO, Qwen 3.6 27B 8k quants running on a Mac Studio 64g ram, incredible?. No it is not frontier general super shit, its just good. That's it, its good. Its free and private and can take an experienced engineer from being lazy to being really lazy, and that's magic right there. I use llama.cpp and opencode and have great moments of planning some code changes, and letting it run. Walk away. Chill in the hamoc, clean the dishes, have a wank, whatever. Use tmux and ssh in and check in on it. THIS is where the incredible comes in. Anyone telling you otherwise, well check their motives. I have no skin in the game. I just have an easy lazy time.

Not my experience at all. Mac Studio 64g, running Qwen2.7b 8K. Took ten minutes to get up and running, just read some documentation, Unsloth literally walks you through it. For Opencode just edit one file and its good to go. Have not had any issues (besides the occasional LLM related one). Not extremely manual and clunky at all.

Yes. Have and did. Also something I thought would be useful, I showed them codex and pay a subscription. Another time later I sat down with them and done a code repo walk through. This time without codex and refactored the codebase, talking through refactoring and modularity and explaining the limitations of prompt driven development.
I believe we are at a unique time for learning and those who are curious enough and have the attention for it will find new joys in learning to write software and understand systems. We live in a system so learning how to write programs becomes a way to start seeing systems. Ie. Critical thinking, the gold standard!

Been thinking a lot about tools for modern musicians/artists/producers. Not tools for creating the music but tools for communication. Email subscriber lists, event creation (image and text) combined with ability to generate QR codes and send them with easy to use dashboard, some kind of insights into the QR scans, merchandise (integrations with Shopify), hn style link aggregation around music.. been building it with my son who also becomes my product manager since he the one using the tools. For now a private repo consisting of a rails API and a react TS frontend app. Everyday I come up with some small improvements in my head but alas not enough time in the world. With the day job an all, this is purely a passion project and a way to help my son follow his passion, putting on house music events and DJ/producing. If anyone interested, plz reach out contact@kushtybuckrecords.com

Except.. people do know exactly how these things work. They know because they are creating them. They know because they are improving them. What nonsense to say we do not know how these things work. Engineers building Qwen for example not only know how things work but they put all the work out there for people to reproduce (if they had the means) that work.

>When any would-be innovator can build and train an LLM on their laptop and put it to use in any way their imagination dictates, it might be the seed of the next big set of changes
That’s kinda happening, small local models, huggingface communities, civit ai and image models. Lots of hobby builders trying to make use of generative text and images. It just there’s not really anything innovative about text generation since anyone with a pen and paper can generate text and images.

I think it is, before it was built into Logic I had a little script setup that would use Meta Demucs. I would use it on my own tracks so I could remix (especially old ones which I had no stems for). It’s also great for sampling and experimentation
